Crown Beverages Limited is a leading beverage company in Uganda, manufacturing and distributing a range of soft drinks, juices, and bottled water.

Crown Beverages Limited was founded and incorporated as Lake Victoria Bottling Company on 29th March 1950. Then, the Uganda government owned the majority shares while a few elite indigenous Ugandans owned the minority shares. In 1965, LVBC became the Pepsi Cola franchise in Uganda and started bottling global soft drinks including; Pepsi, Mirinda, Gingerly among others. In December 1997, CBL went into joint ownership with International Pepsi Cola Bottling Investments, (IPCBI) of South Africa, who bought 51% shares in the CBL and injected in more capital and also had a controlling team.

Job Description

Job Title: Utilities Technician (Fresher Jobs)

Organization: Crown Beverages Limited (Pepsi Cola)

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda


The Utilities Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of utility systems, ensuring they function efficiently and safely. This includes heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, electrical, and water treatment systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and experience working with various utility systems in an industrial or commercial setting.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  1. Maintenance and Repair of Utility Systems

    • Perform preventive maintenance on utility systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and water systems.

    • Troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operation.

    • Regularly inspect systems to identify potential issues and address them proactively.

  2. System Monitoring and Operations

    • Monitor utility systems daily to ensure proper functioning and identify any abnormalities.

    • Adjust and calibrate systems as needed to maintain optimal efficiency and compliance with safety regulations.

    • Record and report utility usage, performance metrics, and any issues encountered.

  3. Safety and Compliance

    • Ensure all utility systems comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations and codes.

    • Adhere to safety protocols when operating, maintaining, and repairing utility equipment.

    • Conduct routine safety inspections and promptly address any hazards.

  4. Emergency Response and Troubleshooting

    • Respond to utility-related emergencies promptly, working to resolve issues quickly and minimize impact.

    • Diagnose complex system issues and coordinate with contractors or vendors for specialized repairs when needed.

    • Develop and maintain emergency response procedures for utility system failures.

  5. Documentation and Reporting

    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.

    • Prepare regular reports on utility usage, equipment performance, and maintenance schedules.

    • Document any incidents, repairs, or adjustments made, ensuring thorough records for future reference.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial chemistry, technology (chemistry), chemical engineering or food processing technology, plumbing, or related field is preferred

  • Proven experience as a utilities technician or in a similar maintenance role.

  • Experience in water treatment plant operation is an added advantage.

  • 2 Years relevant experience in food processing and manufacturing.


Skills:

  • Strong understanding of utility systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and water treatment.

  • Proficient in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.


Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

  • Flexibility to work on-call hours and respond to emergencies.
