Job Description
Job Title: Transport Assistant- Coxswain/Boat Operator
Organisation: National Forestry Authority (NFA)
Duty Station: Kalangala, Uganda
Reports to: Transport Officer/Relevant Field Officer
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Operate and manage NFA boat and boat engine in accordance with the marine guidelines.
Asses the weather conditions before operating the boat.
Prepare and timely submit boat defects and repair requests.
Ensure that the boat is regularly clean, serviced and maintained in a sound mechanical condition according with the service chart.
Record and maintain boat travel records in the log book and ensure that they are authorized by the relevant supervisor
Keep boat repair and maintenance records.
Observe and comply with all relevant safety and marine regulations.
Ensure that the boat is in sound running condition and safe by ensuring that it has sufficient fuel, oil and lights are working properly.
Ensure that the staff and property travelling on the board/water are safe and have protection/life jackets.
Report and respond to any mechanical threats/problems with the boat and boat engine.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
At least five (5) years’ experience in boat operation around Bugala or Kalangala Management area.
Minimum of thirty (30) years of age.
Uganda Certificate of Education or its equivalent.
Training in mechanics will be an added advantage.
Good decision making.
Rough water navigation.
High level of integrity, resilience and reliability.
Self-respect, team building and organizational skills.
Analytical and good communication skills.
