Job Description

Job Title: Theater Nurse

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Theater Nurse to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients throughout the perioperative process, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being before, during, and after surgery. You will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver optimal patient outcomes.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

1. Preoperative Care:

  • Assess patients' physical and emotional readiness for surgery.

  • Prepare surgical sites by performing cleaning, sterilization, and dressing.

  • Educate patients and families on what to expect during the surgery and the post-operative recovery process.

2. Intraoperative Care:

  • Assist the surgical team in preparing instruments and sterilizing equipment.

  • Monitor and record patients' vital signs throughout the surgery.

  • Provide necessary instruments, tools, and supplies to the surgical team.

  • Maintain a sterile environment by strictly following aseptic techniques.

  • Perform instrument and material counts before and after surgery to ensure accuracy and safety.

3. Postoperative Care:

  • Transfer patients to recovery areas and monitor vital signs, surgical sites, and pain levels.

  • Administer prescribed medications and manage post-operative pain as directed.

  • Provide guidance to patients and families on wound care, medications, and the recovery process.

4. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Accurately document all surgical procedures, patient information, and nursing interventions in medical records.

  • Report any complications or concerns to the surgical team promptly.

  • Participate in handovers to ensure seamless continuity of care.

5. Compliance and Safety:

  • Adhere to hospital policies, infection control protocols, and patient safety standards.

  • Ensure that all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and maintained.

  • Follow proper waste segregation and disposal procedures for medical waste.

  • Maintain aseptic techniques to minimize the risk of infection.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.

  • Licensure: A valid practicing license and registration with the Nursing Council.

  • Training: Specialized training in perioperative nursing is an advantage.

  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in an operating room or similar healthcare setting.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection control practices.

  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced and high-pressure environments.

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to patient safety.
