Job Description
This position is part of a five-year USDA-funded initiative aimed at strengthening small and medium poultry enterprises in Tanzania. Based in Mbeya, the Technical Manager will lead technical work on poultry feed formulation, animal health, and biosecurity, and act as the primary liaison with Tanzania’s Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development and Ministry of Agriculture. The role requires strong coordination with both public and private sectors, supporting veterinary services and developing climate-resilient, safe poultry production practices. The manager will also help improve disease surveillance, reporting systems, and animal feed quality standards across the project regions.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Build feed millers' capacity to maintain a consistent supply of feed ingredients
Train feed millers on batch testing, GMP, HACCP, and food safety standards
Promote Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP) and biosecurity measures among farmers
Strengthen disease detection and reporting systems via TVLA, VCT, and MLDF
Train veterinary professionals on outbreak prevention and disease management
Support the development of climate-sensitive poultry disease surveillance systems
Contribute to sustainable poultry production via improved feeding, breeding, health, and housing practices
Prepare technical manuals, guidelines, and reports on animal feed and health
Serve as the main technical point of contact with relevant government ministries

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Degree in Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Health, Livestock Feed, or related field
Minimum of 5 years' experience in animal health or husbandry, preferably in poultry/livestock
Experience in developing training materials and conducting trainings
Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
Proficiency in English and Swahili
Technical knowledge in feed formulation, vaccinations, treatment, and biosecurity
Familiarity with climate-smart livestock practices and disease monitoring tools
