Job Description

The Technical Coach - MHPSS will oversee the implementation of the DEALS psychosocial life skills program, which aims to enhance the resilience and coping strategies of adolescents through creative expression, group discussions, and life skills training. The role includes coordinating and ensuring the quality rollout of this methodology by local implementing partners in the project areas, providing technical coaching, monitoring progress, and reporting on outcomes. The coach will also offer capacity-building and technical support to field staff, maintain operational and administrative oversight, and foster partnerships with stakeholders to ensure the success of the program.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Project Coordination and Implementation: Ensure the effective execution of the DEALS intervention by local partners.

  • Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including local partners and community groups.

  • Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting: Track progress, evaluate outcomes, and prepare reports.

  • Capacity Building and Technical Support: Provide ongoing coaching and support to facilitators and community-based staff.

  • Operational and Administrative Oversight: Manage the day-to-day operations of the project and ensure adherence to timelines and budget.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • University degree in Development Studies, Social Work, or a related field.

  • At least 21 years of age and willing to commit to a minimum of one year.

  • Strong knowledge of adult learning approaches and experience in conducting structured psychosocial interventions.

  • Proven experience in coaching, mentoring, and supporting facilitators or community staff.

  • Experience in working with large and small participant groups.

  • Understanding of MHPSS principles, including identification and referral pathways.

  • Previous exposure to DEALS or similar psychosocial life skills methodologies is an added advantage.

  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written); knowledge of local languages is a plus (Kiswahili, Kinyabwisha, Runyankole, or Kigegere).

  • Must have a valid motorcycle riding permit and know how to ride a motorcycle.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, flexible, culturally sensitive, and ability to create inclusive environments.
