Raising Voices is a feminist organization based in Kampala, Uganda, working to prevent violence against women and children (VAW and VAC). We are well known for our innovation of evidence based VAW and VAC prevention methodologies, national engagement on VAC prevention in Uganda, as a regional convener and resource to organizations working on VAW prevention and response throughout the Horn, East and Southern Africa as well as a global thought leader for quality, scalable VAW and VAC prevention.
Our reputation as a leader in the field of VAW and VAC prevention has propelled us to the forefront of national, and global thought leadership. Small in size but with substantial impact, Raising Voices offers an opportunity to truly impact the lives of women and children in Uganda and beyond. With partners in over 23 countries and as co-conveners of multiple regional and global initiatives, the job opportunities below provide a platform for leaders to exercise and express their commitment to social justice.

Strategic Communication Planning:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies aligned with organizational goals.

  • Advise on communication policies, procedures, and best practices.

  • Conduct communication audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement.


Content Creation and Management:

  • Oversee the creation and distribution of high-quality content across various platforms (e.g., websites, social media, newsletters).

  • Ensure messaging is consistent, accurate, and aligned with the organization's brand and objectives.

  • Develop and manage editorial calendars.


Media Relations:

  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers.

  • Draft press releases, media kits, and other public relations materials.

  • Coordinate media outreach and respond to media inquiries.


Digital Communication:

  • Develop and manage digital communication strategies, including social media, email marketing, and online campaigns.

  • Monitor and analyze digital metrics to assess the effectiveness of communication efforts.

  • Stay up-to-date with digital communication trends and technologies.


Internal Communication:

  • Support internal communication initiatives to ensure effective information flow within the organization.

  • Develop and implement internal communication tools and channels.

  • Advise on crisis communication and issue management.


Project Management:

  • Lead and manage communication projects from conception to completion.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of communication initiatives.

  • Monitor project budgets and resources.

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.

  • An advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., APR, PMP) can be advantageous.


Experience:

  • Significant experience (typically 5-7 years) in communications, public relations, or a related field.

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communication strategies.

  • Experience in media relations and digital communication.


Skills and Competencies

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.

  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation abilities.

  • Proficiency in communication tools and platforms (e.g., CMS, social media management tools, email marketing software).

  • Analytical skills to assess communication effectiveness and inform strategies.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
