Job Title:  Technical Adviser - Social and Behaviour Change Analyst

As a result of Sightsavers growing portfolio of SBC work in both the NTDs and Programmes departments, we are currently seeking an experienced Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Analyst to join our social behaviour change team to support our work to scale up the quality and impact of social behaviour change interventions.  Specifically, this post will focus on programmatic work through the DFID funded Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis in Africa (ELFA) in 11 countries. (3 priority countries Ghana, Nigeria, and Uganda).


As the Technical Advisor your will lead and support social and behaviour change analysis and research across NTDs and wider Sightsavers programme areas. The post holder will work with our SBC teams, design team, country office staff and other stakeholders to lead and support a broad range of social behaviour change analysis and research. This will include the use of research in Social Behaviour Change interventions and programmes.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Further duties include:

  • Providing technical advice and support to country office staff and partners on social and behaviour change field research and analysis in new and ongoing projects, working in close collaboration with other members of the SBC team and thematic leads.

  • Lead the design and development of field assessment and ethnographic protocols and their implementation.

  • Develop a standardised analysis and insights approach which can be used by Sightsavers to inform SBC interventions, projects and programme design.

  • Ensure that Sightsavers programmes are informed by best available evidence and good practice in social and behavioural evidence, and are effectively designed, implemented and evaluated.

  • Support the collaboration and coordination with interdepartmental teams, with a focus on cross-departmental SBC programs, research, MEL and communications design teams.

  • Contribute towards the planning and facilitation of co-creation and design exercises for SBC programs.

  • Contribute to the operationalisation and refinement of the SBC technical toolkit and guidance materials.

  • Build the capacity of Sightsavers stakeholders in SBC, including country staff and partners, through training and coaching activities.

  • Contribute to new funding opportunities, strategic initiatives and fostering innovative approaches in social and behavioral analysis in line with the thematic strategies.

  • In coordination with other team members contribute to the capture and dissemination of SBC learning, research, innovation and communications agenda.

  • Undertake representation of Sightsavers at relevant professional and sector-specific events and as part of international networks and consortia.

  • Strengthen Sightsavers commitment to leave no one behind, disability inclusion, gender equality, climate resilience and systems strengthening as part of working closely in collaboration with other team members.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Knowledge of current issues and best practice in social and behaviour change research and analysis in the international development sector, including frameworks, approaches and methods.

  • Demonstrable experience with social and behavioural field research and analysis techniques and the development of insights to be used in SBC intervention design.

  • Experience of managing social and behavioural research and/or analysis, preferably in the areas of health and/or disability.

  • A high level of oral and writing skills in English and French.


Skills and Experience

  • As the successful candidate you will have working experience or a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (social and/or behavioural research methods, public health, social or behaviour sciences or research methods etc).

  • You will also hold knowledge of different social science and/or anthropological research and analysis paradigms and methods, including both quantitative and qualitative approaches, and have a background of work in social and behaviour change analysis and research within or contributing to international development projects in West Africa (both Francophone and Anglophone).


Desirable

  • Experience in using participatory and inclusive methodologies for research and analysis, including planning, designing and delivering final reports.

  • Experience in capacity building and training.

  • Experience identifying, synthesising and dissemination best practice and project learning.
