Job Description
A Team Leader - Underwriting oversees the underwriting department, ensuring efficient risk assessment and management to meet company standards and customer satisfaction. This role involves leading a team of underwriters, setting performance goals, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The Team Leader reviews and approves high-risk cases, maintains quality assurance, and implements training and development programs for underwriters. Additionally, they analyze underwriting performance metrics, support process improvements, and collaborate with other departments to optimize workflows. Key skills include strong analytical abilities, decision-making, team management, and a solid understanding of underwriting principles and risk assessment.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
To assess, price and determine terms for risks presented within set standards of service in a manner to ensure quality selection of risks and timely service
Establish new and existing risks to ensure they are adequately rated and commensurate terms and conditions advised and endorsed with a view to ensuring that the GI portfolio remains viable and profitable.
Supervise the underwriting team to meet QOP and ensure customer service charter terms are met.
Monitor that all underwriting procedures are adhered to and monitoring systems to ensure compliance.
Maintain a smooth flow of information between underwriting and claims, and agents, for use in underwriting
Determine acceptability of risks, monitor and review terms of accounts assigned
Supervise, train and mentor staff on technical matters to ensure their skills are sharpened
Ensure timely and accurate debiting of premium and endorsement of cover conditions
Supervise preparation of renewal notices, timely dispatch and follow up
Prepare underwriting reports and statistics for management review.
Review risk assessment and rating systems and procedures and make recommendations for improvement.
Continually monitor clients claims experience/ benefit utilization and recommend underwriting action
Check and sign underwriting document to authenticate it
Maintain effective business relationships to ensure effective delivery of service
Monitor service standards within the section to ensure high quality customer service is delivered.
Assist in marketing company products and services to intermediaries and potential clients
