Job Description
Job Title: Team Leader - Agriculture

Duty Station: Jinja, Uganda
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
To lead a team of Agronomists/ Extension officers to ensure constant local barley, and sorghum production from the region.
To implement the barley and sorghum production plan by supervising different actors or stakeholders including aggregators, extension officers and other existing structures to ensure seed allocated has been distributed and farmers are planting the projected acreage.
To look out for opportunities to optimize and expand barley and sorghum production areas depending on need and volume demand from the brewery.
Drive the company sustainability agenda and projects including skilling, financially empowering and connecting farmers plus ensuring relevant farmer planting data to support sustainability activities and reporting is compiled from time to time.
Maintain effective communication and engagement with partners including aggregators, local opinion leaders, relevant district officials, lead farmers etc. to ensure short-term and long-term department and company plans are met.
Demonstrate expert understanding of the primary agronomic knowledge/ good agricultural practices for both barley and sorghum.
Develop regular updates to line management and other internal stakeholders on status and progress of the crop.
Support Research and Development initiatives including collaborating with external experts (SABBI) to ensure the breeding of new superior barley and sorghum varieties.
Promote a safe work environment and a strong safety culture.
Support management at the department to ensure key field requirements are drawn into the budget and that your team is facilitated and supported from time to time to implement field related activities.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor of Science Hons in Agronomy or related field with field crops experience.
Experience in managing agronomic operations.
Experience in working with commercial and small holder farmers.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an agronomy /agronomist related environment.
Fluency in English.
Drivers Licence.

Technical knowledge on crop management and soil nutrient management for both barley and sorghum.
