It was established under Section 42 of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development, and Production) Act and Section 7 of the Petroleum (Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Midstream Storage) Act, both of 2013. It was incorporated under the Companies Act of 2012 as a limited liability company on June 12th, 2015.

The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) Limited was established under the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act and the Petroleum (Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Midstream storage) Act, both of 2013 and incorporated under the Companies' Act, 2012. It is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Government of Uganda. The overall function of UNOC is to handle the State's commercial interests in the Oil and Gas industry and ensure that the resource is exploited in a sustainable manner.

What We Do
Manage the Government’s commercial interests in the petroleum sector and are mandated to ensure that the resource is exploited in a sustainable manner.
Investigate and propose new upstream, midstream, and downstream ventures initially locally and eventually internationally. Develop in depth expertise in the oil and gas sector.
Participate in joint ventures in which it holds an interest on behalf of the State
Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, server software, hardware components, and network devices to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
User Account Management: Create, modify, and delete user accounts and access permissions based on organizational policies and security requirements. Manage user authentication, passwords, and access controls.
System Monitoring: Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and security logs to identify issues, trends, and potential security threats. Implement proactive measures to prevent downtime and mitigate risks.
Patch Management: Apply software patches, updates, and security fixes to servers, workstations, and network devices to address vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with security policies and regulations.
Backup and Recovery: Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies to protect data integrity and ensure business continuity in the event of system failures, data loss, or security breaches.
Security Management: Implement security controls, protocols, and best practices to safeguard systems, networks, and data assets from unauthorized access, malware, and cyber threats. Conduct security audits and risk assessments.
Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues, providing timely resolution and technical support to end-users and stakeholders.
Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, policies, and troubleshooting steps to facilitate knowledge sharing, training, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Capacity Planning: Monitor system resource usage, forecast future demands, and recommend hardware and software upgrades or enhancements to meet performance, scalability, and growth requirements.
Incident Response: Respond to system incidents, outages, and security breaches promptly, following established incident response procedures to minimize impact, restore services, and mitigate risks.

Education: A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is typically required. Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) may be preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, Unix), server administration, virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), networking protocols, and cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
Experience: Previous experience in system administration, IT support, or related roles is often required. Experience with specific operating systems, server applications, or industry-specific software may be beneficial.
Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, troubleshoot system failures, and implement effective solutions under pressure.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with end-users, stakeholders, and team members, explaining technical concepts in non-technical terms and collaborating effectively on projects and initiatives.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in system configuration, documentation, and troubleshooting to ensure accuracy, reliability, and security of IT infrastructure and data assets.
Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, sharing knowledge, providing support, and contributing to the achievement of team goals and objectives.
Time Management: Effective time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks, manage workload efficiently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic IT environment.
Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to learn new technologies, tools, and processes, as well as to adapt to changing business requirements, technologies, and industry trends.
