Equity Bank Uganda Limited, is a commercial bank in Uganda. It is licensed by the Bank of Uganda, the central bank and national banking regulator.

Equity Bank is one of the fastest growing banks in Uganda, with a large network of 50 branches, 7,000+ EquiDuukas, 1,279 POS Terminal and 50+ ATMs spread across the country. 25 of these branches are located in Central and greater Kampala, serving over 1,800,000 customers. The Bank has deployed a number of Alternate Business Channels to enhance its product and service delivery. These include: Internet Banking, Eazzy 247- a mobile banking service, Point of Sales (POS) machines as well as partnerships with major telecom companies.

Job Description

The bank is currently seeking to expand its team and is inviting applications for the following role:

Position: Systems Administrator

Reporting to: Manager, ICT Infrastructure Support

Job Purpose: 

The Systems Administrator will be responsible for installing, upgrading, maintaining, repairing, and providing support for server and desktop hardware (including peripherals), software, and operating systems. The role will encompass a variety of responsibilities in systems administration and support, as outlined below.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, and support hardware (servers, PCs, peripherals, printers, scanners), operating systems, and standard software.

  • Administer and support Active Directory, email, and enterprise anti-virus software.

  • Play a key role in setting up new branches by installing, configuring, and supporting newly installed hardware and software.

  • Provide general technical support to all computer users, handling both routine and emergency issues.

  • Troubleshoot hardware issues to identify and resolve problems affecting users.

  • Advise on hardware, application, and operating system compatibility according to user requirements.

  • Provide specifications for hardware and software procurement.

  • Maintain an inventory of equipment, including items under repair, and requisition hardware components as needed.

  • Ensure routine maintenance and servicing of equipment.

  • Assist in documenting and implementing ICT department policies related to Desktop Management, Service Level Agreements with end-users, and externally contracted companies.

  • Maintain an inventory of hardware and software and document hardware configurations.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • A degree in Information Technology or a related discipline.

  • Hardware and Microsoft certifications are desirable.

  • At least 3 years of experience in network and system administration, PC troubleshooting, and hardware maintenance and repair.

  • Proficiency in operating systems (MS packages, Linux, Oracle), email applications, anti-virus software, MS Office, and other standard software.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to organize, prioritize, and take initiative.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, team-oriented with a willingness to travel to branches.
