Job Description

Job Title:  Supermarket Support Staff (Several No Experience Jobs)

Organisation: S & S Enterprises Ltd

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda


The Supermarket Support Staff at S&S Enterprise is responsible for providing essential operational support across multiple areas within the supermarket. This role involves assisting with daily tasks that enhance customer experience, maintain store presentation, and support inventory management. The Support Staff works collaboratively with cashiers, floor supervisors, and department managers to ensure that the supermarket operates efficiently and meets the high standards of service and cleanliness expected by the enterprise.


The Supermarket Support Staff at S&S Enterprise is integral to the daily operations and overall success of the supermarket. By providing essential support in customer service, inventory management, and store maintenance, this role ensures that the supermarket remains organized, efficient, and customer-friendly. Candidates for this role must exhibit strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, physical stamina, and a proactive approach to work, all of which contribute to a positive and productive retail environment.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Customer Assistance:

  • Greet customers courteously and provide basic assistance, including answering inquiries and directing them to appropriate areas or staff members.

  • Assist customers with locating products and offer help during peak hours or busy periods.


Stocking and Inventory Support:

  • Assist with receiving and unpacking deliveries, ensuring that items are accurately recorded and stored in designated areas.

  • Restock shelves promptly and organize products on the sales floor to maintain product availability and visual appeal.

  • Conduct routine stock checks and report discrepancies to the Inventory Manager or Floor Supervisor.


Store Presentation and Maintenance:

  • Ensure that the supermarket floor, display areas, and storage spaces are clean, orderly, and well-organized.

  • Support cleaning activities and assist with maintaining a hygienic environment for both customers and staff.

  • Set up and dismantle promotional displays, ensuring that visual merchandising standards are met.


Assistance with Administrative Tasks:

  • Help with data entry tasks related to inventory management and daily sales reporting when required.

  • Assist in preparing documentation for audits, cycle counts, and other operational reviews.

  • Support cashiers and front-line staff during peak times by performing secondary tasks, such as handling returns or processing simple transactions.


Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with other support and operational staff to ensure a smooth workflow throughout the store.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and department heads regarding operational issues, customer feedback, or stock-related concerns.


Adherence to Policies and Procedures:

  • Follow all company policies, including those related to customer service, safety, and data confidentiality.

  • Utilize proper handling techniques and equipment as instructed by supervisors to ensure safety and efficiency.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Additional vocational training or certifications in retail operations, customer service, or logistics are advantageous.


Experience:

  • Previous experience in a retail, customer service, or support role is preferred.

  • Familiarity with basic inventory management and point-of-sale (POS) systems is beneficial but not mandatory, as on-the-job training will be provided.

  • Works well in a team-oriented environment and adapts to changing work demands.
