The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) in Uganda is a statutory body established to oversee the regulation, supervision, and control of lotteries, gaming, and betting activities within the country. The NLGRB ensures that these activities are conducted in a fair, transparent, and responsible manner, safeguarding the interests of both the participants and the general public.

The NLGRB plays a significant role in balancing the benefits of the gaming industry with the need to protect vulnerable populations. By regulating and supervising gaming activities, the Board helps mitigate the risks associated with gambling, such as addiction and financial harm. Additionally, the revenues generated from regulated gaming contribute to national development projects, thereby benefiting the broader community.

Job Description

The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board ("The Board") was established in 2016 under the Lotteries and Gaming Act 2016 with a mandate to supervise and regulate the establishment, management and operations of the lotteries, gaming, betting and casinos in Uganda, and to protect the citizens from the adverse effects of gaming and betting in Uganda.
Our Vision is "A technologically driven and revenue generating gaming sector free from adverse effects" The Board invites Online applications from suitably qualified applicants to fill vacant position that exists within the Board's structure as listed below,

Duties and Responsibilities

Data Collection:

  • Design and implement data collection methods, including surveys, experiments, and observational studies.

  • Ensure data collection processes are efficient, accurate, and compliant with relevant regulations.


Data Analysis:

  • Use statistical software and techniques to analyze and interpret complex data sets.

  • Apply various statistical methodologies such as regression analysis, hypothesis testing, and multivariate analysis.


Statistical Modeling:

  • Develop and implement statistical models to address research questions or business problems.

  • Validate and refine models to ensure they provide reliable and actionable insights.


Management:

  • Organize and maintain large datasets, ensuring data integrity and security.

  • Clean and preprocess data to prepare it for analysis.


Reporting and Visualization:

  • Create detailed reports and visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders.

  • Use tools such as charts, graphs, and dashboards to present data in an easily understandable format.


Collaboration:

  • Work with cross-functional teams, including researchers, data scientists, and business analysts, to understand their data needs and provide statistical support.

  • Provide guidance on statistical aspects of research design and data interpretation.


Consultation:

  • Offer expert advice on statistical methods and best practices.

  • Assist in the design of experiments and studies to ensure robust and reliable results.


Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure the accuracy and validity of statistical outputs.

  • Perform quality control checks and validate results through peer review or replication studies.


Documentation:

  • Maintain thorough documentation of methodologies, analyses, and findings.

  • Prepare technical documents and user manuals for statistical tools and models.


Training and Development:

  • Train and mentor junior statisticians and other staff on statistical techniques and software.

  • Stay updated on the latest statistical methods and technologies through continuous learning and professional development.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, data science, or a related field.

  • Advanced degrees (e.g., Master’s or Ph.D. in Statistics or a related discipline) are highly preferred.


Experience:

  • Proven experience in statistical analysis, data interpretation, and model development.

  • Experience with statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, Stata) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).


Skills:

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, or SQL.

  • Ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.


Personal Attributes:

  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.

  • Good communication skills to effectively present findings to non-technical audiences.


Technical Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of statistical methods and techniques.
