Job Description

The Site Lifting Specialist will ensure that lifting and handling operations on-site are carried out safely and efficiently. The position requires overseeing the lifting equipment, preparing lifting plans, conducting competency assessments, and ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations. The role also involves supporting the development of the Lifting & Handling team’s knowledge and providing operational expertise in lifting activities. The candidate will collaborate with various teams to ensure smooth operations and adherence to lifting safety guidelines, including preparing daily and monthly reports.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with the company’s code of conduct and adhere to Uganda’s legislation and company procedures.

  • Promote a safety culture, particularly in lifting operations, to prevent incidents and accidents.

  • Assist with lifting incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

  • Provide operational support for lifting operations and equipment at the site level.

  • Prepare Generic and Critical Lifting Plans and oversee lifting activities.

  • Conduct lifting equipment inspections and evaluate their utilization on-site.

  • Perform site acceptance inspections before mobilization.

  • Conduct competency assessments for Riggers, Banksmen, and Operators regularly.

  • Provide technical expertise and assist with lifting audits.

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly lifting reports.

  • Support the development and assessment of the Lifting & Handling team’s knowledge.

  • Ensure effective communication and application of lifting practices at remote sites.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Law, Procurement, Statistics, or a related field.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Lifting & Handling in the Oil & Gas industry (both onshore and offshore).

  • Industry-related qualifications such as LEEA, EAL, OPITO, CPA, NORSOK, etc.

  • Extensive knowledge of lifting operations, including supervision, inspection, and equipment handling.

  • Experience with international standards such as BS, ISO, API, LOLER, and NORSOK.

  • Previous experience in onshore and offshore operations is preferred.

  • Proficiency in lifting equipment inspections (cranes, forklifts, winches, etc.).

  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

  • Knowledge of French is a plus.
