Job Description
Job Title: Midwife
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Midwife to provide high-quality care to expectant mothers throughout the prenatal, delivery, and postnatal stages. This role involves ensuring maternal and fetal health, managing obstetric emergencies, providing family planning services, and offering neonatal care. You will work closely with other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional maternal and newborn care.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care:
Provide comprehensive midwifery care to expectant mothers throughout their prenatal, delivery, and postnatal journey.
Monitor maternal and fetal health during labor and childbirth, taking timely action when necessary.
Manage obstetric emergencies and perform procedures to protect the health of the mother and child.
Offer family planning services, counseling, and education to patients.
Conduct cervical cancer screenings and educate patients on preventive health measures.
Administer immunizations and ensure patients follow vaccination protocols.
Assist in receiving and caring for newborns in the theater, including performing neonatal resuscitation when required.
2. Supervision and Training:
Mentor and guide junior midwives and nursing staff to uphold high standards of care.
Ensure that maternity protocols and clinical guidelines are followed by all team members.
3. Collaboration:
Work closely with obstetricians, pediatricians, doctors, and clinical officers to provide excellent maternal and newborn care.
Educate and counsel families on postnatal care, breastfeeding, and family planning.
4. Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
Contribute to the development and implementation of maternity center policies.
Monitor the inventory and ensure essential equipment and supplies are available.
5. Quality Improvement:
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the maternity ward.
Identify and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance care standards.
6. Personal Development:
Commit to continuous professional growth through learning and staying current with industry developments.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Educational Requirements:
Diploma in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a busy maternity center.
Licensure:
Must hold a valid medical or nursing board license.
Skills:
Strong clinical judgment and decision-making abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in neonatal resuscitation and the management of critical situations.
Knowledge of family planning, immunization protocols, and cervical cancer screening.
Experience with EMTCT (Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission) is an added advantage.
Work Environment:
A fast-paced maternity center with a high patient volume.
Flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
