Job Description

The Senior Manager – Software Engineering is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of the sprints within the defined timelines and quality standards. They coordinate & allocate resources, manage risks, and make critical decisions to keep the sprints on track, and ensure that cutting edge software solutions are delivered.

They will play a vital role in providing technical guidance to their team. They contribute to software architectural design decisions; help resolve complex technical challenges and ensure the implementation of best practices.

They will work closely with other stakeholders to understand business requirements, identify opportunities for optimization, and build scalable software solutions that support the company's growth objectives.

The Senior Manager – Software Engineering would ensure that software development processes and practices adhere to quality standards. The Engineering Manager would promote and enforce coding standards & code review processes to deliver high quality software products.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership to the squad, ensuring clarity of goals, roles, and responsibilities. Foster a collaborative and self-organizing team culture, promoting trust, motivation, and accountability

  • Facilitate the adoption and implementation of Agile methodologies, within the Engineering team. Educate the team on Agile principles, ceremonies, and practices. Ensure that the team follows Agile processes effectively and continuously improve the Agile implementation

  • Responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of software projects. This outcome involves managing project timelines, resources, and deliverables, and ensuring that projects are completed within the defined scope, budget, and quality standards.

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the development team. Assist with architectural decisions, code reviews, and quality assurance. Support the team in overcoming technical challenges and ensuring adherence to best practices and coding standards

  • Deliver high-quality software solutions. This involves promoting and enforcing software engineering best practices, quality assurance processes, and coding standards. Ensure that software meets quality criteria, including performance, reliability, scalability, and security

  • Utilize project management tools such as Jira, Asana, Trello etc. to enable smooth tracking of tasks and to assign responsibilities among the squad

  • Collaborate with the development team to plan and prioritize the product backlog. Participate in sprint planning sessions to define and estimate user stories and assist the team in breaking down tasks and defining acceptance criteria

  • Facilitate effective communication within the team and across stakeholders. Conduct daily stand-up meetings to promote transparency, identify and resolve any obstacles or impediments. Ensure regular and clear communication on project progress, risks, and dependencies

  • Utilize version control tools such as Git, GitHub, Bitbucket etc. to manage the source code , track changes and collaborate among developers

  • Leverage knowledge of version control, incremental delivery of software, frequent releases, automation, testing and breakdown of work to meet stakeholder requirements effectively

  • Work on multiple cloud platform and leverage cloud native components for a full-stack application

  • Define and track relevant metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure team performance, quality, and productivity. Provide regular status updates and reports to stakeholders to keep them informed of project progress and outcomes

  • Foster the growth and professional development of team members. Provide coaching, mentorship, and support to enhance their technical skills and career progression. Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to help individuals improve and excel

Qualifications and Competencies

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Electronics and Communication

  • Post graduate degree in Computer Science /Networks and /or equivalent professional qualification (Preferred)

Experience:

  • 7+ years of relevant working experience 

  • 5-7 years of experience in either as a full stack developer or as a frontend/backend developer

  • Experience in emerging telecom-based software technology (Preferred to have)

  • Expertise in software development methodologies, design patterns, and best practices

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus

Skills:

  • Proficiency in entire Java technology stack backed by multiple projects and visible accomplishments

  • Proficient in software process such as Agile, Scrum and Kanban

  • Strong knowledge of telecom systems, protocols, and industry standards (Preferred)

  • Solid understanding of web technologies, APIs, and web services

  • Detailed knowledge of database management systems, SQL, and NoSQL databases
