Senior Legal Advisor, Commercial Property Finance job at Standard Bank
Job Description
To provide specialised legal advice to the organisation and related business areas on all complex internal and commercial contractual legal matters relating to business products, with the intention of enabling the maximisation of revenue streams; in accordance with the legal entity mandate and regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
Legal Advisory on Commercial Property Transactions
Provide legal advice on all aspects of commercial property transactions, including acquisitions, sales, leasing, and development projects.
Review and draft contracts, agreements, and legal documents related to property transactions, ensuring compliance with laws and protecting the company’s interests.
Financing Documentation and Structuring
Draft, review, and negotiate loan agreements, security documents, mortgages, and other financial instruments related to commercial property finance.
Advise on the structuring of finance transactions, including secured and unsecured lending, syndicated loans, and mezzanine financing.
Risk Management and Legal Compliance
Identify and assess legal risks related to commercial property finance transactions, advising on strategies to mitigate those risks.
Ensure compliance with local and international laws, regulations, and industry standards that impact commercial property financing, including tax laws, environmental regulations, and zoning laws.
Due Diligence
Conduct thorough legal due diligence for commercial property finance deals, including title reviews, zoning regulations, environmental assessments, and ensuring no legal encumbrances.
Coordinate with other professionals, such as surveyors, environmental consultants, and title insurance companies, to ensure comprehensive due diligence.

Qualifications and Competencies
Other Minimum Qualifications, Certifications or Professional Memberships: Post Graduate Degree - LLB; Admitted attorney; Relevant professional membership
Experience Required
8 - 10 years Proven experience in the provision of guidance and insight pertaining to the drafting, vetting, review, dissemination and/or negotiation of legal documentation and processes of a complex nature. Experience in the drafting and negotiation of finance loan agreements and a deep understanding of property law, financing of commercial properties and collateral requirements. Identification and mitigation of legal risks.
At least 8 years' experience within the legal/financial and/or corporate/commercial sectors.
At least 6 years' people management experience where appropriate.
