Job Description

Kyambogo University is the second largest Public University in Uganda. Since its formation in 2003, the University has established itself as one of the leading Universities in Uganda offering a number of academic programmes in line with vocational education, teacher training, hands-on engineering, special needs training, social sciences, pure and applied sciences, entrepreneurship and management that meet the market demands and development needs of the Country. The Strategic Focus Areas of the University include: Teaching and Learning: Research, Innovation and Knowledge Generation; Physicalfrastructure, Facilities and ICT Development, Institutional evelopment and Strategic Marketing.
In order to achieve its mission and strategic goals, the University invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the Teaching positions in the disciplines listed hereunder on permanent terms.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development: Develop and revise courses in rehabilitation science, including topics such as anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, therapeutic interventions, and psychosocial aspects of disability. Ensure that course content aligns with accreditation standards and evidence-based practices.

  • Classroom Instruction: Deliver lectures, lead discussions, and facilitate hands-on laboratory sessions to teach students fundamental concepts and practical skills in rehabilitation science. Use innovative teaching methods, technology-enhanced learning, and active learning strategies to engage students.

  • Student Supervision: Supervise students in clinical internships, fieldwork placements, and research projects. Provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship to help students develop clinical competencies, critical thinking skills, and professional identities in rehabilitation practice.

  • Research and Scholarship: Conduct original research in rehabilitation science, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and community partners to address research questions related to rehabilitation outcomes, interventions, and service delivery models. Disseminate research findings through publications, presentations, and grant proposals.

  • Service and Leadership: Serve on departmental, college, and university committees, contributing to institutional governance, curriculum development, and accreditation processes. Provide leadership within professional organizations and academic societies dedicated to rehabilitation science and practice.

  • Clinical Practice (if applicable): Maintain licensure and engage in clinical practice or consultation activities, providing direct patient care, clinical supervision, or program development in rehabilitation settings. This practical experience enhances teaching and research activities by grounding them in real-world contexts.

  • Community Engagement: Collaborate with healthcare organizations, community agencies, and advocacy groups to address the needs of individuals with disabilities and promote awareness of rehabilitation services. Participate in outreach activities, public education campaigns, and community-based initiatives.

  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development activities, including continuing education courses, workshops, and conferences. Stay current with advancements in rehabilitation science, clinical practice guidelines, and ethical standards.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Education: A doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) in rehabilitation science, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or a related field is typically required for a senior lecturer position. Advanced certifications or licensure in rehabilitation disciplines may also be preferred.

  • Teaching Experience: Demonstrated excellence in teaching rehabilitation science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Experience in curriculum development, course coordination, and student mentoring is valued.

  • Research Expertise: Strong research skills and a record of scholarly productivity in rehabilitation science, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at conferences, and involvement in research projects.

  • Practical Experience: Substantial experience working in clinical or research settings related to rehabilitation practice. Practical experience provides valuable insights into the application of theoretical concepts and evidence-based practices in real-world contexts.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively convey complex concepts to students, colleagues, and stakeholders. The ability to communicate with diverse audiences, including individuals with disabilities, healthcare professionals, and policymakers, is essential.

  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including faculty members, healthcare professionals, researchers, and community partners. Collaboration is essential for addressing the multifaceted needs of individuals receiving rehabilitation services.

  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with assistive technologies, rehabilitation equipment, and digital tools used in clinical practice, research, and education. Proficiency in using technology for data collection, analysis, and dissemination of research findings is advantageous.

  • Leadership Abilities: Leadership qualities to lead research projects, mentor students and junior faculty, and contribute to departmental and institutional initiatives. The ability to foster a positive learning and research environment is essential for academic success.

  • Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and service activities. The ability to create inclusive learning environments that respect and value diverse perspectives and backgrounds is essential.
