Job Description
Reporting to the Manager – Sustainability, the Senior Land Officer will be responsible for coordinating land acquisition processes, overseeing lease transactions, resolving land disputes, supporting resettlement planning, and ensuring timely documentation and compliance with legal requirements. The role involves field engagement, development of land databases, providing expert assessments in land-related disputes, and contributing to project planning processes through land use evaluations. The position plays a key role in ensuring that land access challenges are minimized, while upholding stakeholder and community rights.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Monitor implementation of land administration policies, laws, and regulations relevant to mineral development
Supervise processing of land acquisition transactions including lease offers and deed plans
Arbitrate and report on settlement of land disputes
Develop and maintain land-related databases (land use, population, infrastructure, tenure, etc.)
Provide expert witness testimony and valuation in legal proceedings (e.g., eminent domain cases)
Review and evaluate project proposals related to land use and development, and provide recommendations
Participate in Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs) and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs)
Conduct land use planning exercises to support various project needs
Identify potential land-related grievances and implement appropriate grievance redress mechanisms
Perform any other land management tasks as assigned

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Land Economics, Land Valuation, or Land Use Management from a recognized institution
Master’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Project Planning and Management, or a relevant discipline
Experience:
At least six (6) years of relevant experience in land acquisition and resettlement for large-scale public or private infrastructure or natural resource projects
Previous experience in mineral exploration and production operations is an added advantage
Proven experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and navigating complex stakeholder dynamics
Demonstrated capacity to plan and implement complex land-related projects under tight timelines
Skills and Competencies:
Strong understanding of land laws and resettlement policies
Dispute resolution and stakeholder engagement skills
Data management and analytical skills
Legal and valuation expertise related to land
Excellent communication, coordination, and organizational skills
Age Requirement:30 to 45 years
