About the Organisation
The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is a semi-autonomous institution, established in May 1995, as the principal agency in Uganda, charged with the responsibility of coordinating, monitoring, regulating and supervising environmental management in the country.
NEMA spearheads the development of environmental policies, laws, regulations, standards and guidelines; and guides Government on sound environment management in Uganda. In doing this, NEMA contributes to social-economic development and wise use of natural resources, focusing on providing support to Government’s main goal of ensuring sustainable development contributing to the National Vision, the National Development Plan (NDP), regional and global commitments including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The National Environment Management Authority (hereinafter called “NEMA”) was established under the National Environment Act, Cap.153 in May 1995 and continued under the National Environment Act No.5 of 2019 as the principal agency for environment management in Uganda charged with regulating, supervising and coordinating all activities relating to the environment.

Job Description
Job Title: Senior Laboratory Analyst
Organisation: National Environment Management Authority (NEMA)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Reports to: Principal Research and Innovations Officer
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and implement Work Plans, Budgets and timely reporting
Develop and manage a robust environment monitoring and compliance Laboratory Service
Spearhead Laboratory registration and accreditation program in line with the National Environment Act
Develop and manage environment Laboratory Services Strategy and Programs
Support development and promotion of sustainable environment Science, Technology and Innovations
Support development and implementation of National Environment Action Plan
Support development and implementation of Local Governments and Urban Authorities Environment Action Plans
Support Environment Monitoring, Audit and Prosecution functions
Support environment research and innovations
Support compilation of the State of Environment Reports for Uganda
Develop bankable proposals for sustainable resource mobilization and collaboration efforts
Coordinate with other divisions/departments to mainstream Environment Laboratory Service
Supervise and appraise the staff under him/her
Perform any other official duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
An Honors Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant field of Environment and Natural Resources Management or Natural Sciences Laboratory Technology
A Master’s Degree in the relevant field of Environment and Natural Resources management or Natural Sciences Laboratory Technology
Experience:
Must have at least three (3) years relevant professional working experience in Environment Laboratory services in a reputable organization.
Competences and skills:
Excellent Scholarly writing, publication and presentation skills
Excellent scientific analytical skills
Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
Knowledge and skills in Strategic Planning
Knowledge and skills in Conservation Planning
