Job Description
Reporting to the Manager – Sustainability, the Senior Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for implementing and enforcing health and safety policies and procedures in alignment with industry and legal standards. The role includes participation in daily permit-to-work meetings, conducting risk assessments, leading emergency response efforts, and engaging in safety audits and investigations. The officer will also oversee training and compliance in personal protective equipment use, manage behavior-based safety programs, ensure the readiness of fire equipment, and maintain proper records related to HSE. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential to ensure the effective dissemination of HSE-related updates and performance reviews.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Implement company health and safety policies and procedures
Attend daily Permit to Work (PTW) meetings and conduct job safety analyses and risk assessments
Enforce compliance with PTW procedures and conduct workplace inspections
Lead emergency response team actions during incidents
Monitor contractor safety performance and recommend improvements
Provide guidance on procedural HSE improvements
Ensure adherence to all company safety standards
Manage the behavior-based safety program, including data collection and analysis
Ensure personnel receive required training and maintain up-to-date training records
Participate in audits and investigations of safety incidents and ensure high-quality reporting
Supervise maintenance and testing of fire and emergency equipment
Communicate HSE statistics, updates, and lessons learned to the workforce
Maintain up-to-date environmental and safety records
Deliver safety inductions for visitors
Enforce compliance with PPE policies

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree (Honors) in Industrial Safety, Health, Safety and Environment, or related field
Master’s Degree in Industrial Safety, Health, Safety and Environment, or a related field is an added advantage
Experience and Competencies:
Minimum of six (6) years of experience in frontline health and safety monitoring and reporting
Experience with safety data analysis and statistics reporting
Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (advantageous)
Formal training in Environmental Health or equivalent (advantageous)
Familiarity with health and safety legislation
Knowledge and application of HS standards including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Skilled in conducting safety risk assessments, audits, and investigations
Age Requirement:30 to 45 years
