Senior Drilling Engineer job at TotalEnergies
TotalEnergies
Job Description
Position: Senior Drilling Engineer
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Workplace: KAMPALA-COURSE VIEW TWRS (UGA)
Domain: Drilling/Well Operations
Contract Type: Regular Position
Experience: Minimum of 6 years
Context & Environment:
This project stands as a unique challenge, being the largest industrial drilling operation in a remote and environmentally sensitive area. The Tilenga oilfields are located partly within a protected National Park, beneath the river Nile wetlands, and in a densely populated rural region of Uganda. The project is exposed to significant risks, with potential severe consequences due to the local environment and the presence of numerous NGOs. Drilling operations will involve factory drilling, with one well delivered every four days using three drilling rigs simultaneously. This will require the standardization of equipment and procedures, strict adherence to Drilling & Well instructions, and effective logistics management. The project aims to achieve the lowest possible costs, which will require challenging the existing TOTAL design concepts and references. The multicultural environment includes contractors from various parts of the world, while Ugandan regulations, technical authorizations, and international onshore plant codes will apply.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety and Compliance: Adopt and promote exemplary behavior regarding Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) rules. Ensure the implementation and control of HSE standards within your area of responsibility. Participate in HSE audits, incident investigations, and Safety Quality Meetings (SQMs). Ensure that operations comply with industry standards, local regulations, and internal company policies. Prepare derogation dossiers as needed.
Well Construction Design: Oversee and validate well construction engineering/design developed during the pre-project phase. Perform drilling engineering studies and simulations using drilling software to ensure well integrity and construction, taking into account complex anti-collision requirements. Provide ongoing follow-up.
Program Preparation: Assist the Head of Drilling Engineering in preparing the General Drilling Program. Collaborate with the Completion Engineering team and GSR team to prepare well-specific Statements of Requirements (SOR), with particular focus on technical feasibility.
Collaborative Well Design: Work with the GSR team to minimize well trajectory complexities while optimizing reservoir requirements to maximize well productivity. Prepare detailed drilling programs for specific wells, issuing related reports and studies.
Innovation and Improvement: Promote the use of new drilling techniques and equipment. Actively engage in drilling operations and propose continuous improvements.
Permitting and Regulatory Compliance: Prepare technical input for interactions with authorities and project partners. Develop and submit permitting dossiers required for well operations to the relevant authorities.
Reporting and Evaluation: Conduct end-of-activity debriefings and prepare End of Well Reports. Consolidate lessons learned through the “REX” system and contribute to the Drilling Improvement Process.
Budgeting and Expenditure: Prepare authorization requests for expenditures related to managed contracts.
Pre-Spud Meetings: Organize and lead pre-spud meetings with the operational team on board rigs.
