About the Organisation
Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (“UEGCL or the Company”) was incorporated in 2001 initially with the main objective to take over as a going concern the generation activities of the now defunct Uganda Electricity Board (UEB) together with all or any part of the property, assets and liabilities associated with it as was transferred to the Company by UEB in accordance with the Public Enterprise Reform and Divestiture Act. These assets transferred to the Company from UEB were principally the 180 MW Nalubaale and 200 MW Kira Hydro Power Stations located in Jinja.

Job Description
Job Title: Security Officer
Organisation: Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Identify, assess, and manage security risks to safeguard company assets and personnel.
Conduct periodic security audits and vulnerability assessments across company sites.
Develop and implement security management strategies to mitigate potential threats.
Review, develop, and enhance security management policies and procedures.
Ensure adherence to company security protocols, industry standards, and legal requirements.
Provide security-related training and awareness programs for employees.
Supervise outsourced security service providers to ensure effective performance and compliance.
Coordinate multi-functional security teams to maintain operational security.
Conduct security briefings and enforce compliance with security policies.
Respond promptly to security incidents, breaches, and emergency situations.
Investigate security incidents, document findings, and implement corrective actions.
Accurately report all security-related incidents to senior management.
Monitor and operate CCTV cameras and other surveillance systems to detect and prevent security threats.
Conduct regular patrols and inspections to ensure compliance with security protocols.
Enforce access control measures, including searches of personnel, vehicles, and baggage.
Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and other external stakeholders.
Act as the primary point of contact for security matters within UEGCL.
Prepare and submit detailed reports on security issues, threats, and mitigation strategies.
Ensure the protection of UEGCL property and assets against theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.
Maintain a safe and comfortable working environment for employees and visitors.
Implement and enforce health, safety, and emergency response procedures.
Any other duties assigned.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor of Law or a relevant degree
Cadet Course Training (added advantage)
Certification in a security related area is an added advantage
Related Job Experience/Qualification:
The Experience required to perform this job.
At least 5 years as a security officer in a reputable organization.
Experience in risk assessment, incident response, and emergency management.
Additional Skills:
In addition to the experience and educational requirements listed above
Good observation skills
Fully aware of arrest and restraint techniques.
Aware of health and safety issues
Dealing with people politely but in a firm manner
Computer literate, able to use MS Office and also visitor management systems.
Having a professional approach to all routine tasks.
Experience of monitoring and controlling security equipment
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
Data analysis and Report writing skills
Risk Assessments

First aid skills
