Lira University is one of the public Universities in Uganda. It started as a Constituent College of Gulu University in 2009 and attained autonomy as a fully-fledged Public University through an Act Parliament under Statutory Instrument 2015 No. 35 on the 16th July, 2015.
It was established on a niche of training students in Health Sciences. It has the first University Teaching Hospital in Uganda.

Lira University is a Public University pursuant to Statutory Instrument No. 35 of 16 July 2015 under The University's and other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 (as amended 2006). Applications are invited from suitably qualified and interested candidates for the following post.
Patrolling Premises: Regularly patrol assigned areas, both indoors and outdoors, to ensure the security of the property, deter criminal activity, and ensure the safety of people on the premises.
Monitoring Surveillance Equipment: Observe and monitor security cameras and alarm systems to detect any unusual or suspicious activities. Report any findings to the appropriate authorities or take direct action if necessary.
Access Control: Manage access to buildings and properties by checking identification, monitoring entry and exit points, and issuing visitor passes. Prevent unauthorized access and ensure only authorized individuals are allowed entry.
Responding to Alarms and Emergencies: Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, or incidents such as theft, vandalism, or fire. Take appropriate action to manage the situation, including calling emergency services or law enforcement.
Conducting Security Checks: Perform security checks on vehicles, bags, and people as required. Ensure compliance with security policies and procedures and maintain safety standards.
Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed reports on incidents, observations, and activities that occur during shifts. Document all security breaches, hazards, and irregularities, including damage, theft, or other criminal activity.
Providing Customer Service: Assist employees, visitors, and customers by providing information, directions, and assistance as needed. Maintain a professional demeanor to create a welcoming and secure environment.
Handling Conflicts and De-escalation: Manage conflicts or disturbances that arise on the premises. Use de-escalation techniques to resolve situations without violence or further disruption.
Implementing Safety Protocols: Enforce safety regulations and policies, including fire safety protocols, emergency evacuation procedures, and workplace safety standards.
Detaining and Escorting Individuals: Detain individuals suspected of unlawful activities until law enforcement arrives, if authorized. Escort disruptive or unauthorized individuals off the premises as needed.
Collaborating with Law Enforcement: Work closely with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical personnel when incidents occur. Provide them with accurate information and support as needed.
Maintaining Security Equipment: Inspect and maintain security equipment such as alarm systems, surveillance cameras, and communication devices to ensure they are in proper working condition.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Additional training or education in criminal justice or a related field can be advantageous.
Licensing and Certification: Security Guards are often required to have a valid security guard license, which involves completing state-mandated training programs and passing background checks. Requirements vary by state or country.
Experience: Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or military service is often preferred but not always required for entry-level positions.
Knowledge of Security Procedures: Understanding of basic security and fire inspection procedures, emergency protocols, and surveillance techniques. Familiarity with local laws and regulations related to security and safety.
Physical Fitness: Good physical health and stamina are required, as the job often involves standing for long periods, patrolling areas, and responding to physical confrontations or emergencies.
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail for monitoring surveillance footage, identifying suspicious behavior, and noticing changes in the environment that could indicate a security breach.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with the public, employees, and law enforcement. Ability to write clear and concise reports.
Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving skills to handle security issues quickly and effectively. Ability to think critically and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
Alertness and Vigilance: High level of alertness and the ability to remain vigilant and attentive to surroundings at all times to detect potential threats or hazards.
Professionalism and Integrity: A high level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior is crucial. Security Guards must be trustworthy and able to handle sensitive information discreetly.
Ability to Handle Stress: Capability to remain calm and composed under stressful situations, including emergencies, confrontations, or high-threat scenarios.
First Aid and CPR Certification: Basic first aid and CPR certification may be required to provide immediate assistance in case of medical emergencies.
Flexibility and Availability: Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Flexibility to adapt to different assignments or changing security needs.
