Job Description
Position Title: School Improvement Officer
Job Summary: This strategic role involves planning and carrying out school inspections, supporting school leaders in developing and executing improvement plans, and coordinating peer mentorship systems within the assigned region. The officer will spend the majority of their time in schools, ensuring that targets are met and reporting on the quality of education provided in schools within their designated area.
Purpose: To support school improvement by conducting inspections, monitoring progress, and providing reports to ensure continuous improvement within the assigned schools.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Plan and implement school inspections with the line manager to assess progress toward improvement targets.
Prepare and present comprehensive inspection reports, including transparent judgments and evidence-based recommendations.
Communicate inspection findings and enforce recommendations for school improvements.
Coordinate the self-evaluation processes for school leaders to help develop and implement School Improvement Plans (SIPs).
Guide schools in creating and executing SMART SIPs to drive improvement.
Organize and deliver post-inspection training for school leaders based on identified areas of need.
Collect relevant data to support project improvements and reporting.
Generate cluster-level inspection reports and present findings to the System Strengthening and Quality Assurance teams.
Collaborate with the Regional Directorate of Education Standards (DES), District Education Officers (DEOs), District Inspectors of Schools (DISs), and PEAS peer school leaders to enhance school performance in line with inspection criteria.
Perform other duties as directed by the line manager.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Person Specifications:
Self-motivated, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Strong team player with a resourceful attitude.
Willing to travel and work in diverse and challenging environments.
Able to perform well under pressure and within specific timelines.
Experience and Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Education; postgraduate qualifications in Education Management are an added advantage.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in education management, with experience at the secondary school head teacher level.
Demonstrated experience in delivering quality secondary school education and curriculum leadership.
A record of improving student learning outcomes through teacher training and school support.
Desirable: Experience as a Trainer of Trainers.
Experience in developing and implementing professional school inspection systems.
Proven expertise in school evaluations and data-driven reporting.
Desirable: Experience in inspecting government schools.
Skills, Knowledge, and Personal Attributes:
In-depth knowledge of national and local education policies and guidelines.
Strong understanding of competence-based curriculum delivery.
Effective mentoring, guidance, and counseling skills.
Strong skills in data collection (e.g., observations, interviews, focus group discussions).
Excellent communication and consensus-building skills.
Ability to prioritize resources effectively to meet specific objectives.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Awareness of the geographical, cultural, social, and economic factors that impact the ethos of schools.
