Job Description
Job Title: SACCO Accountant
Organisation: PostBank Uganda Limited (PBU)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
The SACCO Accountant will lead the development of the Society’s accounting systems, monitor operational accounts, and prepare financial reports and final books of accounts to ensure proper accountability in compliance with the Cooperative Societies Act, other applicable laws of Uganda, and International Accounting Standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare and monitor all balance sheet and income statement account movements, ensuring they reflect the correct balances and that all relevant account reconciliations are performed, with corrective actions taken as per the laid-down guidelines in the SACCO control framework for balance sheet substantiation.
Prepare, monitor and present the SACCO Budget to Management and the Board on a quarterly basis.
Ensure effective budgetary controls are in place.
Periodically analyze the performance of the SACCO, identify opportunities and threats and advise Management and the Board on appropriate interventions and best investment/cost cutting decisions.
Handle SACCO reconciliation and resolving outstanding items promptly.
Prepare daily, monthly and quarterly management and SACCO regulatory reports.
Manage SACCO financial accounting and monitoring systems.
Liaise with external auditors on audits and implement recommendations from management letters.
Keep abreast of changes in financial regulations and legislation and continuously advise Management and the Board on new developments, including their respective implications to the functioning of the SACCO.
Ensure the Society’s assets and liabilities are recorded correctly and safeguarded.
Perform revenue assurance on the balance sheet and ensure no income leakages.
Ensure the necessary cash reserve is maintained as required by law.
Monitor to ensure effective implementation and review of the Society’s financial accounting policies and procedures.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business Administration, Accounting and Finance, Commerce, Statistics or Economics, from a recognized Institution.
Possession of at least 1-2 years’ work experience in a similar role.
A candidate pursuing CPA or ACCA will have an added advantage.
Should have obtained at least a credit in Mathematics and English at O’ Level Should have demonstrable knowledge of the operations and regulations of SACCOs and Cooperatives.

Possess analytical and critical thinking skills.
Be proactive and demonstrate excellent customer care skills.
Must be self-motivated & a team player.

Good planning and organization skills. Dynamic self – starter with a personal ambition to succeed.
Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
Excellent computer skills, particularly in MS Word, MS Excel and MS access, Power Point.
The ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in written form in a professional manner is deemed essential.
