Following the South Sudanese refugee influx in 2015, the IRC scaled up its response in the West Nile region.

Currently, the IRC operates in over 40 countries, including 9 districts in Uganda: Kitgum, Lamwo, Kyegegwa, Moroto, Amudat, Yumbe, Arua, Kasese, and Kampala. By promoting durable solutions that focus on saving lives, strengthening institutions, and supporting social cohesion, the IRC aims to bring people from harm to home, laying the foundation for long-term stability and development.
