Job Description

Job Title:  Risk Officer

Organisation: ASA Microfinance Uganda Ltd (ASA Uganda)

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda

Reports to: Chief Risk Officer


This position oversees the process for investigation and processing of fraudulent, illegal, or improper activities by employees and/or members of the credit institution and the prevention and recovery of losses caused by such activities.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Identify, prevent, and reduce the financial risks and losses caused by fraudulent activities /misappropriation.

  • Investigation of any suspicious or unusual activities by staff / clients and validating evidence for investigation reporting

  • Protect businesses and clients from the financial losses that can result from fraud/ misappropriation activities.

  • Making a clear statement to staff, clients, and other stakeholders that the Company does not nurture, accept, or tolerate any fraudulent acts.

  • Develop policies, procedures, and strategies to ensure fraud risks are effectively controlled and managed.

  • Development and execution of Branch Monitoring Plan.

  • Manage and Supervise Department Team member.

  • Reviewing weekly branch monitoring reports from team members and recommendation for action to be taken.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly consolidated reports of the department for the group. Preparing annual budget for the department.

  • Any other assignment from CEO.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or any other business related course.

  • At least 4 years’ work experience in a financial institution.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in computer applications (word processing, spread sheets, email, etc.)

  • Ability to maintain high standard of integrity

  • Must stay current with new fraudulent activities that may breach the organization’s security measures.

  • Writing and Reporting skills.
