The Center for Rapid Evidence Synthesis (ACRES) is a research institution based in Kampala, Uganda, dedicated to supporting policy and decision-makers at regional, national, and sub-national levels. Our work spans key sectors such as health, renewable energy, gender, and education, providing accurate and timely evidence to inform policies and decisions.
The Center is organized into four operational units:

Job Description
Job Title: Research Scientist
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Contract Duration: One-year, renewable (subject to funding)
ACRES is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Scientist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting evidence syntheses, policy analysis, research, and evaluations. You will engage directly with policymakers and support the policymaking process. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful research that influences national and regional policy decisions.
This position is a one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
The Research Scientist will contribute to ACRES' programs by responding quickly to the research needs of national and sub-national policymakers. Key responsibilities will include:
Supporting a rapid response mechanism to address policymakers’ evidence needs.
Leading stakeholder engagement activities such as policy dialogues and citizen panels.
Conducting internal and external capacity-building initiatives.
Carrying out research in line with ACRES’ research agenda and responding to research requests from government departments or other clients.
In addition to the above, the Research Scientist will mentor and guide small teams of researchers within the organization’s various units and collaborate with the administration team in periodic reporting of activities.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
A Master’s degree (MSc) in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or a related field, with a research component.
Knowledge and experience in evidence synthesis, with a strong track record in scientific writing and publications.
Proven ability to prepare and communicate scientific content for non-scientific audiences.
Experience in engaging with public policy actors and the policymaking environment.
Desired Skills and Attributes
Proficiency in scientific grant writing.
Strong writing and communication skills, including report writing, blogs, and press/news articles.
Team management and leadership abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
