Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), with funding support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is implementing the USAID/Uganda Combating Wildlife Crime (CWC) Activity in partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and Royal United Services Institute (RUSI). The goal of this activity is to reduce wildlife crime in Uganda. WCS is seeking a Uganda-based research consultant to support the development of the 2024 Uganda Wildlife Trafficking Assessment Report. The goal of the report is to assess the illegal wildlife supply chain in Uganda and the country's role as a transit point for international wildlife trafficking.
Research Design and Planning:
Identify research objectives and develop comprehensive research plans.
Design research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative approaches.
Create project timelines and manage resources effectively.
Data Collection:
Collect data through various methods such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, and secondary data analysis.
Ensure ethical standards and confidentiality in data collection processes.
Data Analysis:
Analyze data using statistical software and other analytical tools.
Interpret data to identify patterns, trends, and insights.
Develop models or frameworks to address research questions.
Report Writing and Presentation:
Prepare detailed research reports, executive summaries, and presentations.
Present findings to clients, stakeholders, or management in a clear and concise manner.
Provide actionable recommendations based on research findings.
Client Liaison and Communication:
Maintain regular communication with clients to update them on progress and findings.
Understand client needs and ensure that research objectives align with their goals.
Address client questions and concerns promptly and professionally.

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, economics, business, statistics, or a related discipline. A master’s or doctoral degree is often preferred.
Specialized training or certification in research methodologies or data analysis can be advantageous.
Experience:
Several years of experience in conducting research, preferably in a consultancy role.
Proven track record of managing and delivering research projects successfully.
Skills:
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex data and derive meaningful insights.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS), database management, and data visualization tools.
Research Skills: Expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present findings and recommendations clearly.
Project Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Problem-Solving Skills: Creative and critical thinking skills to address research challenges and find solutions.
