Job Description
The Research Assistant will play a central role in the Applied History Project, supporting initiatives such as the Ernest May Fellows seminars, Applied History Working Group sessions, and a monthly newsletter. The role involves conducting research on topics like US-China relations, Russia, nuclear security, and intelligence policy. The RA will also assist in event planning, academic publication, and public dissemination of research. This hybrid position is based in Cambridge, MA, and requires at least three days per week on-site during the academic year.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct in-depth research and analysis on key international security topics
Produce analytic memos and contribute to scholarly publications
Assist Professor Graham Allison in ongoing research
Organize project events including working groups and seminars
Manage and contribute to the Applied History Project newsletter
Plan research activities for public and private events
Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Strong knowledge of American and world history
Excellent writing skills
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a relevant field
Coursework in U.S. foreign policy, international relations, or history
1+ year of relevant work experience
Exceptional academic or professional credentials
Other Requirements:
Must work in person at least three days per week (academic year)
Must reside in a Harvard Registered Payroll State (e.g., MA, CT, NY, CA, etc.)
