Job Description

Job Title:  Relationship Officer - SME

Organisation: Pride Bank Limited (PBL)

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda

The Relationship Officer - SME – reports to the Relationship Manager and is responsible for recruiting and nurturing new SME business deals, growing the existing relationships, monitoring and maintaining the Bank’s Business portfolio within manageable risk spheres to enhance profitability.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • To recruit, nature and sustain new SME relationships that have a potential to grow and provide superior returns and contribute towards assets and liabilities growth as per set targets.

  • Active pipeline management with the objective to meet agreed personal growth objectives across all product ranges and clients’ segments.

  • Superior management of the client portfolio to grow and retain existing business, whilst continuously reviewing existing client wallets with an eye to optimizing the Bank’s revenue through selling/promoting appropriate product bundles.

  • Actively undertake the negotiation and structuring of transactions in the prospective and closing stages with the aim of attaining value for the client, while protecting the business interests of the Bank

  • Work hand-in-hand with other stakeholders on the timely and efficient preparation of high-quality credit proposals, and drive turn-around time well within the Bank’s objectives;

  • Vigilant arrears management in line with the Bank’s policies in order to spot early attention areas — the objective is to maintain the loan portfolio’s NPA percentage (well) within agreed parameters;

  • Constantly explore the enhancement of the Bank’s brand name so that the Bank holds out to the target markets as one of the best in the corporate field in terms of service, innovation, and customer awareness/responsiveness.

  • Develop and maintain well documented reports/visits/contracts with all the Bank’s relationships, management, and other units.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in any discipline

  • 2 Principal passes at A’ Level

  • Credit and/or Pass in English and Mathematics at 0′ level.


Required Experience for job position 4.

  • At least 3 years’ experience as a Credit Officer or Loans Officer in a Financial Institution.


Person Specifications for job positions 4 above:

  • The candidate must be able and willing to ride a motorcycle.

  • Should be willing to work in any part of the country where Pride operates.

  • Must have critical thinking, analytical, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Understanding of the Banking environment.

  • Advanced, computer literacy, numerical skills and statistical skills.

  • Team player, ability to work under pressure and in position to exercise excellent judgment.


Desired behaviors for job 4 above includes

  • The ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in written form.

  • Ability to build functioning working relationships across organizational, corporate, and cultural boundaries.

  • Takes clear accountability and focuses on delivery of broader corporate goals.

  • Ability to take decisions and progress towards goals in conditions of uncertainty.

  • Ability to demonstrate positive image and role model Bank values.

  • Should be ready to challenge themselves to continuously deliver exceptional performance.

  • Should be computer literate, highly motivated, innovative and a self-starter.

  • Should have excellent presentation, leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Should be honest, trustworthy and have a high degree of integrity.

  • Should be fluent in commonly used local languages in the respective regions.

  • Should not be more than 40 years of age


Desired Competencies/skills for jobs 3, 4 & 5  above include;
