Job Title: Relationship Manager - Acquiring & Card Business

Reports to: Manager E-Banking
The Relationship Manager – Acquiring & Card Business is responsible for driving the bank’s card acquiring and issuing business. The role focuses on growing the merchant network, enhancing card transaction volumes, and developing strategic partnerships to expand the bank’s footprint in the digital payment’s ecosystem. The incumbent will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver seamless payment solutions and maximize revenue generation.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Merchant Acquiring & Business Growth
Develop and implement strategies to grow the merchant acquiring portfolio
Identify and onboard new merchants, ensuring proper setup and training on POS terminals, e-commerce solutions.
Maage and deepen relationships with existing merchants to increase transaction volumes.
Monitor merchant activity and ensure effective risk management.
Drive revenue growth through strategic partnerships and new digital payment solutions.
Monitor market trends and competitor activity to enhance the bank’s acquiring solutions.
Ensure timely commission payments to and from agents.
Recruit and supervise agents, ensuring compliance with SLAs.
Provide operational support to enhance agent performance and activity
Lead and direct sales teams to drive uptake and utilization of school fee payment solutions
Card Business Development (Debit, Prepaid, Credit Cards)
Drive the bank’s card issuance and usage, including debit, credit, and prepaid cards.
Differentiate card products to maximize value from international and proprietary schemes.
Work closely with product development teams to enhance card features and benefits.
Oversee end-to-end card lifecycle, including issuing, acquiring, settlement, and chargebacks.
Ensure continuous innovation, including contactless payments and virtual cards.
Collaborate with IT, Card Operations, and Security to safeguard card transactions.
Drive campaigns and promotional activities to boost card adoption and usage.
Identify opportunities to expand digital and contactless payment solutions.
Client Relationship Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for key merchants and corporate clients.
Conduct regular engagements with clients to address service issues, negotiate pricing, and identify cross-sell opportunities.
Ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs) and resolve disputes efficiently.
Strategic Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement
Implement coaching and training programs for sales and branch colleagues.
Manage partnerships with external vendors, schemes, and fintech partners.
Lead P&L management for all acquiring-related partnerships.
Engage with payment processors, fintech partners, and card schemes (Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay) to improve service offerings.
Work with marketing teams to promote card and payment solutions to customers.
Risk & Compliance Management
Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and industry standards (e.g., PCI DSS).
Ensure all merchant onboarding and transactions comply with regulatory and bank policies.
Monitor fraud trends and implement security measures to mitigate risks.
Collaborate with internal risk, compliance, and IT teams to enhance transaction security.
Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation controls.
Ensure governance, compliance, and risk controls are followed across all operations.
Implement and review new regulatory requirements in a timely manner

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, Accounting, Commerce Statistics, Marketing, or a related field
A post graduate degree in IT or a professional qualification will be an added advantage.
Work Experience
At least 3-5 years of experience in merchant acquiring, card business, or digital payments in the banking sector.
Strong knowledge of payment processing, POS systems, e-commerce, and card networks.
Experience in sales, relationship management, or business development in financial services
Key Required Competencies & Skills
Ability to analyse market trends and drive innovative payment solutions
Strong understanding of banking regulations and risk management in card payments
Business growth and development skills.
Strong negotiation skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
