Job Description

Position Title: Regional Agriculture Officer

Department/Group: Implementation

Reporting To: Lead Agriculture Development

Years of Experience: 2-3 Years

Location: RTV Regional Hubs (MidWest/North/Elgon)

Travel Required: 80%


The Regional Agriculture Officer will be responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and supervising agricultural extension interventions, including cropping and livestock, within Raising The Village’s partner communities. This position will involve working with the Venn team to assess agricultural needs, supporting the procurement team with supply contracts, and collaborating with program implementation staff and local authorities. The officer will provide technical support on agricultural practices, including composting, organic pesticides, soil management, and livestock care, and ensure continuous feedback for improved program delivery.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Program Design & Innovation:

    • Support the Venn team in planning and designing agriculture extension activities.

    • Provide innovative ideas for agricultural programs, focusing on climate resilience.

    • Review project designs for feasibility and provide feedback as necessary.

  • Technical Support:

    • Identify and advise on optimal planting, fertilization, harvesting, and crop storage techniques.

    • Guide control measures for harmful insects, pests, and weeds.

    • Provide technical support on emerging agricultural issues, including organic fertilization and pesticide use.

    • Collaborate with RTV staff and local government officials to support community garden projects.

  • Facilitation & Training:

    • Conduct refresher training for RTV staff and local government extension officers.

    • Lead field training for agricultural champions in each operational cluster.

    • Develop and update training materials for RTV staff, extension officers, and community members in local languages.

  • Project Management:

    • Understand and apply project management principles to ensure effective agricultural interventions.

    • Monitor and track crop cycles, yield, and harvests across clusters.

    • Support agricultural reporting and analysis, including feedback on program adoption.

  • Administration & Coordination:

    • Attend district and cluster meetings to discuss key agricultural issues.

    • Submit weekly financial reports and reconcile budgets with the District Head.

    • Capture and document field data according to RTV data protocols.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • A University Degree in Agriculture Science, Animal or Crop Husbandry, Agriculture Extension, or related fields.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in agriculture or community development programming.

  • Strong understanding of organic pesticide use, soil management, crop, and pest management.

  • Proven facilitation skills, with the ability to relay technical information to diverse audiences.

  • Strong communication skills in both English and local languages.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or Google for Work Suite.

  • Physically capable of hiking on challenging terrain, with the ability to travel up to 80% of the time.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving skills.
