The role of a Refugee Status Interviewing Officer involves assessing the claims of individuals seeking refugee status, ensuring the process is fair and thorough, and adhering to legal and organizational guidelines.JOB DETAILS:
Applications are invited from qualified Ugandan Nationals to fill the under listed vacant positions available in the office of the Prime Minister under the Department of Refugees Management.

Applications should be addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister, P.O. Box 341, KAMPALA.
All application letters should include: Copies of Academic Certificates, Record of experience, detailed Curriculum Vitae(CV), Personal Contact addresses e.g. phone contacts, e-mail addresses, and a recent passport photograph of the applicant and contacts of three referees.
The applicant should be a person of high moral character and integrity, willing to work in remote rural settlements and should apply for only one (1) Post.
All applicants must quote the Reference Number of the post advertised, indicate the reference number on the top left hand side corner of the application letter, envelop, seal it and submit the application to the Human Resource Management Department, Open Registry 3rd Floor, Office of the Prime Minister.

Interviewing and Assessment:
Conduct detailed interviews with asylum seekers to gather information on their claims for refugee status.
Assess the credibility of the applicants' claims based on their testimonies and supporting evidence.
Ensure that interviews are conducted in a sensitive and non-intimidating manner, respecting the dignity and rights of applicants.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
Prepare comprehensive interview notes and reports, documenting the applicants’ statements and evidence.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all interviews and assessments.
Ensure all documentation complies with confidentiality and data protection regulations.
Analyze the information gathered during interviews alongside relevant country of origin information and legal guidelines.
Make informed and impartial recommendations or decisions regarding the eligibility of applicants for refugee status.
Draft detailed decision letters explaining the reasons for the approval or denial of refugee status.
Legal and Policy Compliance:
Stay informed about national and international refugee laws, policies, and guidelines.
Apply relevant legal principles and frameworks to assess refugee claims.
Ensure all actions and decisions comply with organizational policies and legal standards.
Communication and Coordination:
Communicate effectively with applicants, their representatives, and other stakeholders.
Liaise with legal advisors, interpreters, and other professionals involved in the refugee status determination process.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on complex cases.
Training and Capacity Building:
Assist in the training and mentoring of new staff and colleagues on interviewing techniques and legal standards.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
Reporting and Analysis:
Compile and analyze data related to refugee status determinations.
Prepare reports on trends, outcomes, and challenges in the refugee status determination process.
Provide feedback and suggestions for improving procedures and policies.

Education and Experience:
A degree in law, international relations, human rights, social work, or a related field.
Previous experience in refugee status determination, immigration services, legal practice, or a related area.
Experience working with vulnerable populations and in cross-cultural settings.
