Job Description
Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, health care and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP's portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, Emerging Infectious Diseases Program (EIDP) for surveillance of influenza and influenza-like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also, a PEPFAR funded program in HIV treatment, care and prevention in the districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma, Buikwe, Luwero, Nakasongola. Additionally. MUWRP seeks to fill the following position.
Contract Tenure: 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to the needs of the Organization
Duties and Responsibilities
Quality Assurance (QA) Duties
Developing QA Processes: Creating and implementing quality assurance protocols and standards.
Documentation: Preparing and maintaining documentation on QA processes, such as quality manuals, procedures, and audit schedules.
Training: Conducting training sessions for staff on quality standards and best practices.
Audits and Reviews: Performing internal audits and reviews to ensure adherence to quality standards and identifying areas for improvement.
Preventive Actions: Identifying potential quality issues and developing preventive measures to mitigate risks.
Continuous Improvement: Implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives.
Quality Control (QC) Duties
Inspection and Testing: Conducting inspections and tests on products to ensure they meet quality specifications.
Defect Identification: Identifying and documenting defects or deviations from quality standards.
Corrective Actions: Recommending and implementing corrective actions to address quality issues.
Sampling Procedures: Developing and executing sampling procedures for product testing.
Record Keeping: Maintaining detailed records of inspections, test results, and any corrective actions taken.
Reporting: Preparing quality control reports and communicating findings to relevant departments.
Shared Duties
Standards Compliance: Ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
Collaboration: Working closely with other departments, such as production, engineering, and supply chain, to address quality issues and improve processes.
Customer Feedback: Collecting and analyzing customer feedback to identify quality improvement opportunities.
Supplier Quality: Evaluating and monitoring the quality of materials or components from suppliers.

Qualifications and Competencies
Educational Requirements
Degree: A bachelor's degree in a related field such as quality assurance, engineering, manufacturing, life sciences, or a related discipline.
Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), or Six Sigma can be beneficial.
Professional Experience
Relevant Experience: Several years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, or a related field.
Industry Experience: Specific experience in the relevant industry (e.g., manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food processing) may be required.
Skills and Competencies
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address quality issues.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of the job.
