The role of a Protection Officer (Legal) involves ensuring the protection of individuals’ rights and providing legal support in contexts such as human rights organizations, governmental bodies, or non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Applications should be addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister, P.O. Box 341, KAMPALA.
All application letters should include: Copies of Academic Certificates, Record of experience, detailed Curriculum Vitae(CV), Personal Contact addresses e.g. phone contacts, e-mail addresses, and a recent passport photograph of the applicant and contacts of three referees.
The applicant should be a person of high moral character and integrity, willing to work in remote rural settlements and should apply for only one (1) Post.

Legal Support and Advice:
Provide legal advice and support to individuals and organizations on protection issues.
Interpret and apply relevant laws, regulations, and policies to specific cases.
Draft and review legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and case reports.
Case Management:
Assist in the identification, assessment, and management of protection cases.
Conduct interviews and gather evidence from clients to support their cases.
Develop and implement protection strategies and action plans.
Advocacy and Representation:
Represent clients in legal proceedings, including court appearances, mediation, and negotiations.
Advocate for clients’ rights and interests with authorities, organizations, and other stakeholders.
Prepare and submit legal briefs, petitions, and other documents to support clients' cases.
Training and Capacity Building:
Conduct training sessions and workshops for staff, partners, and beneficiaries on legal protection and rights.
Develop training materials and resources on legal issues and protection policies.
Provide ongoing mentoring and support to team members on legal matters.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Monitor the implementation of protection policies and programs.
Compile and analyze data on protection cases and trends.
Prepare reports on legal protection activities, outcomes, and challenges.
Coordination and Collaboration:
Collaborate with other departments, agencies, and organizations to coordinate protection efforts.
Participate in protection coordination meetings and networks.
Establish and maintain partnerships with legal aid organizations, law enforcement, and other relevant entities.
Policy Development and Advocacy:
Contribute to the development and review of protection policies and guidelines.
Advocate for legal reforms and policy changes to enhance protection mechanisms.
Engage in research and analysis on legal and protection issues.

Education and Experience:
A degree in law (LLB or equivalent); a master's degree in law, human rights, or a related field is often preferred.
Admission to the bar or a legal practice license in the relevant jurisdiction.
Previous experience in legal practice, particularly in human rights, refugee law, or child protection, is highly beneficial.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of national and international legal frameworks related to human rights and protection.
Proficiency in legal research and writing.
Ability to interpret and apply legal principles to complex cases.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
Ability to analyze legal issues and develop sound legal arguments.
