About the Organisation

Humanity & Inclusion is an international non-governmental organization. It was founded in 1982 to provide help in refugee camps in Cambodia and Thailand.
Humanity & Inclusion (HI) works alongside people with disabilities and individuals living in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster.

Co-recipient of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize, Humanity & Inclusion (the new name of Handicap International) is a 40-year-old independent and impartial organization working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster.

We work alongside people with disabilities and individuals experiencing extreme hardship, acting and bearing witness to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights.

HI in Uganda is currently implementing development and humanitarian interventions in six sectors/thematic areas: Livelihood, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Physical and Functional Rehabilitation, Inclusive Education, Inclusive Health, and Inclusive Humanitarian Action (IHA) to improve access and quality of services to the most vulnerable people including persons with disabilities promoting a more inclusive and harmonious society.

About INSPIRE Project:

The INSPIRE (Inclusive Norms, Support, and Promoting Inclusive Reproductive Empowerment) project is aimed at sustainably enhancing access to reproductive health rights and services for persons with disabilities in the Nakivale refugee settlement, one of the largest refugee settlements in the world.

Financial services

Based on an ongoing successful collaboration between MTI and HI under a Health project in Nakivale, MTI was able to share an existing gap in regard to SRHR which is the very low uptake of Family Planning within the Congolese refugee community as well as among persons with disabilities. This last point is even more complicated by the fact that there is currently no disaggregated health data and therefore no way to ensure that 10% to 15% of the settlement population is able to access health services including SRHR or if they are satisfied by those services.

The INSPIRE project will support interventions ensuring that both refugees and host communities living in Nakivale, including people with disabilities, have full and equitable access to their rights, including sexual reproductive rights and protection services. The “inclusive Dance 4 Changes” activity is one component of the INSPIRE project that will be implemented in two of Nakivale zones/subzones, Base Camp and Kibengo

In collaboration with all the relevant actors, the Project supervisor shall work closely with the Project Manager to ensure successful implementation of the project through the following deliverables:
