Through the Forest and Biodiversity program, WWF-Uganda is working with partners (Government Ministries, Agencies, Local Governments, Private Sector and communities) to conserve the integrity of Uganda's protected areas and habitats on private land. This is being done with a balanced mix of forest and wildlife policy, expansion of forest estate, good governance and community livelihoods interventions.

FEATURED PROJECT
The overall objective of the project is that by 2025, rural livelihoods are improved and greenhouse gas emissions are reduced through widespread access to clean and renewable sources of energy in Uganda.

The Project Officer will support the implementation of actions of Leading the Change Project and the Resilience for People and Biodiversity Project. The job holder will provide technical support for achieving landscape restoration, NBS and nature- based enterprise (NbE) development and implementation with selected Partners for climate resilience and mitigation. In addition, the job holder will provide technical support in strengthening and growing the institutional capacity of organizations and communities involved in forest landscape
restoration.

  • Project Planning and Development: Collaborate with stakeholders to identify project objectives, goals, and scope related to forests and biodiversity conservation. Develop project plans, timelines, budgets, and resource allocations in alignment with organizational priorities and donor requirements.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), indigenous groups, and private sector entities. Foster partnerships, collaboration, and participation to ensure inclusive and participatory project planning and implementation.

  • Needs Assessment and Analysis: Conduct needs assessments, baseline studies, and situational analyses to understand the challenges, opportunities, and priorities related to forests and biodiversity conservation. Gather data, information, and feedback from stakeholders to inform project design and decision-making.

  • Project Implementation: Coordinate and oversee the implementation of project activities, work plans, and deliverables related to forests and biodiversity conservation. Monitor progress, track milestones, and ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

  • Capacity Building and Training: Provide capacity-building support and training to project stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and partner organizations. Enhance their knowledge, skills, and capabilities in areas such as sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem restoration.

  • Community Outreach and Participation: Conduct outreach activities, awareness campaigns, and community engagement initiatives to involve local communities in forests and biodiversity conservation efforts. Promote community participation, empowerment, and ownership of conservation initiatives.

  • Natural Resource Management: Support the development and implementation of strategies and plans for sustainable natural resource management, including forest conservation, watershed protection, wildlife management, and ecosystem restoration. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify and implement conservation measures and best practices.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish monitoring and evaluation systems to track project progress, measure outcomes, and assess the impact of forests and biodiversity conservation interventions. Collect data, analyze results, and prepare reports to document achievements, lessons learned, and recommendations for future projects.

  • Policy Advocacy and Networking: Advocate for policies, laws, and regulations that support forests and biodiversity conservation at the local, national, and international levels. Build networks, coalitions, and partnerships with government agencies, civil society organizations, and research institutions to advance conservation goals and priorities.

  • Environmental Education and Awareness: Promote environmental education and awareness initiatives to increase public understanding of forests, biodiversity, and the importance of conservation. Develop educational materials, conduct workshops, and facilitate outreach activities to engage diverse audiences in conservation efforts.

  • Grant Management and Fundraising: Manage project grants, contracts, and funding agreements related to forests and biodiversity conservation. Develop fundraising proposals, donor reports, and grant applications to secure funding for conservation projects and initiatives.

  • Risk Management and Compliance: Identify and mitigate risks associated with project implementation, including environmental, social, and financial risks. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing forests and biodiversity conservation activities.

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor's (honors) degree in environmental studies; climate change and development, Forestry, Rural development, Natural resource management or related field.

  • At least 3 years work experience in a related field such as Community livelihoods and Cooperatives, Climate Change, CSO and Institutional Capacity Development, Nature Based Enterprises and Market Linkages. Proven practical experiences supporting field-based nature-based solutions.

  • Ecosystem-based adaptation, green enterprises and/or climate change adaptation and mitigation is a must, Good practical GIS capabilities and experience.

  • Experience and strong capabilities working in Gender mainstreaming. Experience working in projects with Conflict resolution, Dynamics components Practical Experience and capabilities in developing advocacy plans and following them through for Policy influence and change.

  • Experience in community livelihoods linked to Markets, Enterprise Models and Food security.

  • Fluency in English and at least one other major language spoken (Swahili, and/or Runyakitara) in the Albertine Graben.
