Job Title: Project Officer - Climate-Resilient Livelihoods and Energy

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Reports to: Program Manager- Natural Resources and Livelihoods
The Project Officer – Climate-Resilient Livelihoods and Energy will drive the implementation of activities that enhance the adaptive capacity of communities in the River Nkusi Catchment. This includes promoting climate-smart agriculture, energy-efficient technologies, and alternative livelihood strategies that reduce dependency on natural resources and mitigate climate change impacts.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Livelihood Diversification:
Design and implement initiatives promoting biodiversity-friendly micro-enterprises for vulnerable households.
Support communities in adopting climate-smart agriculture practices that enhance productivity and resilience.
Facilitate access to potable water and promote water-efficient technologies in farming.
Energy Efficiency and Climate Action:
Promote the adoption of fuel-efficient stoves and alternative energy sources, such as charcoal briquettes.
Train communities on the production and use of energy-efficient technologies, ensuring sustainability.
Community Preparedness & Awareness:
Strengthen community access to climate information and early warning systems to enhance decision-making and risk management.
Conduct awareness campaigns focusing on energy and water savings, climate risks, and gender-sensitive resilience strategies.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Track the progress of livelihood and energy-focused interventions, ensuring adherence to targets.
Document success stories and compile regular reports on the impact of livelihood and energy activities.
Partnerships and Capacity Building:
Collaborate with government and private sector partners to enhance access to climate-smart technologies and microfinance options.
Build the capacity of local stakeholders to sustain and expand livelihood and energy programs

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in ecosystem restoration, conservation, or similar projects.
Educational Requirements:
A degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Proven experience in community engagement and capacity building.
Strong knowledge of afforestation, agroforestry, and biodiversity conservation practices.
Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills
Key Performance Indicators:
Level of contribution to the implementation of Climate-Smart Agriculture and sustainable livelihood activities.
Extent of adoption and use of energy-efficient technologies in target communities.
Level of engagement with farmers and households to improve access to potable water and irrigation resources.
Timeliness and quality of project reports submitted.
Effectiveness in facilitating community awareness and capacity-building sessions.
Level of stakeholder engagement and collaboration for successful project delivery.
Extent of micro-enterprise development and its impact on household income diversification.
Keen observation skills and a sharp memory
