About the Organisation

Ashinaga provides financial support and emotional care to young people around the world who have lost either one or both parents. With a history of more than 55 years, our support has enabled more than 110,000 orphaned students to gain access to higher education.

Ashinaga is a Japanese non-profit organization that provides educational and emotional support to young people who have experienced the loss of one or both parents. In the past 45 years, Ashinaga has raised over $1 billion to enable more than 100,000 orphaned students to complete higher education in Japan. In 2001, Ashinaga expanded beyond its domestic activities and now supports a global community of disadvantaged young people, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. We now have offices in Uganda, Senegal, the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and France. We have supported over 100 orphaned students from Sub-Saharan Africa to study at universities in Japan, Europe, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Brazil.

Job Title:  Program Coordinator (Psychosocial Programming)

Job Summary:   Ashinaga Uganda Rainbow House is seeking a dedicated and experienced Program Coordinator to lead our Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Program at the Rainbow House in Nansana, Wakiso District. This is a full-time position offering a unique opportunity to impact the lives of high-need youths and contribute to the mission of providing educational and emotional support to students who have lost one or both parents.


Role Overview

The Program Coordinator will lead all Care Program-related duties, managing and directing a small team to deliver exceptional MHPSS to our beneficiaries. This role involves program coordination, administration, strategic planning, reporting, and representation. The successful candidate will ensure the Care Program meets its objectives and aligns with the broader goals of Ashinaga Uganda.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Program Coordination (50%)

  • Design and implement engaging curricula for youth beneficiaries.

  • Develop and manage the program’s annual schedules.

  • Coordinate with interns and volunteers to optimize service delivery.

  • Provide direct support to all registered beneficiaries.

  • Collaborate with guardians and other stakeholders involved in programming.

  • Create and analyse youth-friendly surveys to assess program impact.

  • Manage program-related data to report and present globally.


Administration (30%)

  • Oversee and ensure the accuracy of all Care Program-related administrative tasks, such as catering services, transportation, and communication with stakeholders.


Strategy (15%)

  • Collaborate with the Co-Director of Rainbow House and the Care Program team to address current and future organizational needs.

  • Ensure alignment of services with organizational goals and existing frameworks.

  • Drive continuous improvement in service delivery for beneficiaries.


Reporting and Representation (5%)

  • Prepare occasional reports for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Represent the Care Program team in organizational and external meetings as required.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences (Psychosocial Development, Psychology, Counselling, or Social Work and Social Administration).

  • Experience in program coordination, preferably in MHPSS or educational setting.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and Luganda.

  • Advanced proficiency in MS (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).


Desirables:

  • Previous experiences in Child Protection.

  • A master’s degree in the above-mentioned degrees.

  • Research and Data Analysis: Experience in designing and analysing youth-friendly surveys.

  • Leadership: Ability to guide and motivate team members, delegate tasks, and foster a positive work environment.

  • Empathy: Deep understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable youth, with the ability to respond objectively and compassionately.

 

Recruitment process

Phase 1: Computer Literacy tests

In this phase, we will assess your computer skills proficiency.


Phase 2: Psychosocial Programming Assessment

In this phase, your ability to coordinate and manage MHPSS programs will be evaluated.


Phase 3: The Oral Interview

In this phase, we will assess your overall fit as Care Program lead, as well as your communication skills, critical thinking and alignment to Ashinaga Uganda’s mission.
