Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants to fill vacant posts tenable at the Ministry of Health - Headquarters, Mulago National Referral Hospital, Kawempe Referral Hospital, Kiruddu Referral Hospital and Ministry of Health - Regional Referral Hospitals (MoH-RRH).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Medication Management: Oversee medication management processes, including medication dispensing, prescription review, and medication reconciliation to ensure patient safety and optimal therapeutic outcomes.

  • Clinical Consultation: Provide clinical pharmacy services, including medication therapy management, drug information, and patient counseling to healthcare providers and patients.

  • Therapeutic Monitoring: Monitor patients' response to drug therapy, assess for drug-related problems, and recommend appropriate interventions to optimize medication regimens.

  • Clinical Protocol Development: Develop and implement clinical protocols, guidelines, and formulary management strategies to standardize medication use and promote evidence-based practice.

  • Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring: Monitor and report adverse drug reactions and medication errors, contributing to medication safety initiatives and quality improvement efforts.


Managerial Duties:

  • Staff Supervision: Provide leadership and supervision to pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support personnel, to ensure efficient operations and high-quality patient care.

  • Performance Management: Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and facilitate professional development opportunities for pharmacy staff.

  • Workflow Management: Optimize pharmacy workflow and processes to maximize efficiency, minimize wait times, and ensure timely medication access for patients.


  • Resource Allocation: Manage pharmacy resources, including staffing levels, inventory, and budget, to support the delivery of pharmacy services within allocated resources.

  • Quality Assurance: Implement quality assurance measures, such as medication safety audits, medication use evaluations, and regulatory compliance assessments, to maintain high standards of pharmacy practice.


Administrative Duties:

  • Policy Development: Contribute to the development and revision of pharmacy policies, procedures, and protocols in alignment with regulatory requirements and best practices.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws, regulations, and accreditation standards, such as those set forth by the Joint Commission or Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of pharmacy activities, including medication records, quality improvement initiatives, and adverse event reporting.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and administrators, to optimize medication therapy and promote interdisciplinary care.

  • Strategic Planning: Participate in strategic planning initiatives and contribute to the development of pharmacy services to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare organization and patient population.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Pharmacy Degree: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree from an accredited pharmacy program.

  • Pharmacy Licensure: Valid pharmacy license or registration in the relevant jurisdiction.

  • Clinical Experience: Significant clinical experience in pharmacy practice, with expertise in medication management, pharmacotherapy, and clinical pharmacy services.

  • Management Experience: Previous experience in pharmacy management or leadership roles, demonstrating proficiency in staff supervision, performance management, and workflow optimization.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with healthcare providers, patients, and pharmacy staff.


  • Leadership Abilities: Strong leadership qualities, including decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Commitment to Continuous Learning: Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development, staying abreast of advances in pharmacy practice, regulations, and technology.

• Shortlisted candidates shall, where applicable, be required to bring their original certificates, letters of appointment, three copies of completed PSF 3, Registration Certificates and Valid Practicing Licenses and evidence of active service, at the oral interview.
• Candidates who will present forged certificates and other documents shall be handed over to the Police for appropriate action.
• Health Workers who are on long-term training (one year and above) must not apply.
