Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is a public Limited Company, wholly owned by the Government of Uganda, and holds the following operational licenses: System Operator, Operation of the High Voltage Transmission Grid, Bulk Power Supply, Import and Export of Power and Public Infrastructure Provider (for ownership and operation of the Optic Fibre).

Maintenance Planning and Management
Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance plans for substations.
Schedule regular inspections, tests, and preventive maintenance activities.
Ensure that maintenance activities comply with industry standards and regulations.
Troubleshooting and Repair
Diagnose and resolve issues with substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and control systems.
Conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
Coordinate with other engineering teams to resolve complex technical problems.
Operational Monitoring
Monitor the performance and condition of substation equipment using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
Analyze data from monitoring systems to identify potential issues and optimize equipment performance.
Implement predictive maintenance strategies to minimize unplanned outages and extend equipment life.
Safety and Compliance
Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to safety protocols and regulations.
Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., NERC, IEEE).
Project Management
Lead maintenance projects, including upgrades, retrofits, and new installations.
Develop project plans, budgets, and timelines in collaboration with project managers.
Monitor project progress and ensure timely completion within budget and scope.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment status, and repairs.
Prepare technical reports, maintenance logs, and compliance documentation.
Present findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
Team Leadership and Training
Lead and mentor a team of maintenance technicians and junior engineers.
Provide training and guidance on maintenance procedures, safety practices, and technical skills.
Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Vendor and Contractor Management
Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized maintenance services.
Review and approve contractor work to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
Manage service agreements and evaluate contractor performance.

Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Advanced degrees (e.g., Master’s) are often preferred.
Certifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license is advantageous.
Relevant certifications such as Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or NETA Certification for Electrical Testing Technicians are beneficial.
Experience
Several years of experience in substation maintenance or a related field.
Proven track record of managing maintenance programs and leading technical teams.
Experience with high-voltage equipment and electrical systems is essential.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in diagnostic tools and techniques for substation equipment (e.g., infrared thermography, DGA analysis).
Strong understanding of electrical protection and control systems.
Knowledge of SCADA systems and their application in substations.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
Excellent analytical skills to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
Strong problem-solving abilities to develop effective maintenance strategies and solutions.
Attention to detail and accuracy in technical documentation and reporting.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and presenting findings.
Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and external partners.
Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders clearly.
Project Management Skills
Strong organizational and project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to develop and execute project plans, monitor progress, and meet deadlines.
Experience in budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management.
Leadership and Teamwork
Proven leadership abilities to guide and mentor junior engineers and maintenance technicians.
Experience in fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
