WCS is part of a consortium made up of the Uganda Biodiversity Fund (UBF), Nature-Uganda (NU), and Ecological Christian
Organization (ECO) implementing a EUROPEAN UNION funded project titled "Restoring and Conserving Degraded Fragile Ecosystems for Improved Community Livelihoods among the Refugee and Host Communities of West Nile Region and the mid-Albertine Rift." WCS Uganda Program welcomes APPLICATIONS from the following experts for consultancy services to undertake repeat surveys of plants and birds in pre- selected project sites.
Field Surveys:
Conduct detailed field surveys to identify and catalog plant species in a specific area.
Collect samples and data on plant species, including their abundance, health, and spatial distribution.
Data Collection and Analysis:
Record precise data using GPS, GIS, and other mapping tools.
Analyze collected data to assess the ecological health of the surveyed area and identify any changes in plant populations.
Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare comprehensive reports detailing survey findings, including species lists, population densities, and ecological assessments.
Document any rare or endangered species and suggest conservation measures.
Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA):
Conduct plant surveys as part of EIAs to determine the potential impact of construction projects or other developments on local vegetation.
Provide recommendations to mitigate adverse effects on plant life.
Collaboration:
Work closely with ecologists, environmental scientists, and conservationists to support broader environmental studies.
Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and private companies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Monitoring and Management:
Develop and implement monitoring programs to track changes in plant communities over time.
Assist in managing and restoring habitats by advising on planting schemes and other conservation strategies.
Public Education and Outreach:
Educate the public, stakeholders, and policymakers about the importance of plant conservation and biodiversity.
Participate in community outreach programs and workshops.

Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline can be advantageous.
Professional Experience:
Significant experience in conducting botanical surveys and fieldwork.
Experience with environmental impact assessments and ecological research is highly valued.
Skills:
Botanical Identification: Expertise in identifying plant species, including trees, shrubs, grasses, and herbaceous plants.
Field Skills: Proficiency in using field equipment such as GPS units, GIS software, and plant identification keys.
Data Analysis: Ability to analyze ecological data and interpret findings using statistical and mapping software.
Reporting: Strong report-writing skills to present survey findings clearly and concisely.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with stakeholders and presenting findings.
Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with software used in ecological research, such as GIS, statistical analysis programs, and database management tools.
Certifications:
Certification in botanical surveying or related fields may be required or beneficial, depending on the employer.
