Job Description

Job Title:  Operations Geologist A & B

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Apply and promote the Company’s HSE policies within the geological operations activities. Ensure compliance with “Total Best Practices” following regulatory authority, environmental conservation guidelines and internal Company rules for the well preparation process, operational follow-up and post well studies.

  • Ensure that all geological operations are carried out in strict respect of the HSE regulations.

  • Ensure the proper organization of the Operations Geology team on site (around 14 persons during drilling operations).and define the team objectives in close collaboration and alignment with N+1, guide the Operation Geologists and wellsite geologists in their activities.

  • Key actor for the WSOR process integrating Pore and Fracture Pressure studies, Shallow Hazard, Drill Site Assessment and relevant mitigation measures.

  • Execute geological operations activities safely and as specified in the WSOR. Assess possible geological risks while drilling and guarantee the timely transmission of this information to the relevant entities. Be embedded in the Real Time Support Center to assist for any critical operation or situation such as well landing, casing shoe decision, critical logging acquisition or for any emergency situation occurring on a rig site.

  • Contribute actively to the data acquisition programs optimizing whenever possible with innovative solutions to safely acquire fit for purpose data achieving well objectives at lowest possible cost preserving data reliability and quality.

  • Contribute to the estimation of the Group reserves through proper interpretation of well results participating actively to the petrophysical interpretations.

  • Guarantee proper dispatch, analysis and storage of rock & fluid samples.

  • Ensure full well data recovery and participate to the proper data archiving and distribution of the well data in accordance with the Affiliate data management rules and country regulations.

  • Participate as contract user in the preparation of CFT’s for contracted services. Contribute to the local SQM’s for Mud Logging and Drilling & Data Acquisition services following up operational performance and associated costs.

  • Ensure contractual conformity of data acquisition execution and expenditures.

  • Contribute to the development of operations geology skills especially for local new professionals.

  • Participate to the delivery of necessary reports such as WSOR memo, Geological Well Prognosis, End of Well Reports and their distribution and guarantee proper and regular reporting of the operations to all relevant entities.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • BSc Hons Degree in Geology or other geosciences disciplines.

  • A least 7 years of experience in the oil & gas industry,

  • A significant subsurface operations experience (minimum 5 years) in domains such as Operations Geology, Petrophysics, management and/or onshore drilling,

  • A strong ability to work in a cross functional environment, excellent communication skills.
