Job Description
The MEL Director will lead the organization’s internal evaluation and research activities across 10 countries of operation. This includes managing large-scale annual evaluations, building capacity among MEL staff, maintaining high data quality standards, and ensuring results are effectively used to inform and guide program decisions. The role also involves leading impact studies, improving evidence frameworks for new initiatives, supporting donor and partner communications, and ensuring data transparency and accessibility. The MEL Director is a key member of the senior leadership team, contributing to long-term strategy and vision-setting for One Acre Fund.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Lead annual impact evaluations across all program countries.
Maintain and enhance high standards of data quality and analysis.
Develop and mentor MEL staff at all levels.
Collaborate with program leadership to integrate MEL findings into program improvements.
Set and drive long-term strategy for MEL across the organization.
Design and implement impact studies in-house or through research partners.
Establish robust MEL frameworks for emerging initiatives (e.g., market access, resilience).
Oversee analysis and reporting to guide investment decisions.
Ensure transparent access to data insights and historical trends.
Engage with donors and partners to meet evaluation requirements.
Represent MEL functions to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Master’s degree or higher in agriculture, economics, statistics, demography, or related field.
7+ years’ experience in MEL, preferably in rural development contexts.
Proven quantitative analysis experience using tools like STATA or R.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in team leadership across multiple locations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience working in multicultural, international environments.
Passion for impact-driven work and rural development.
