Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, health care and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP's portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, Emerging Infectious Diseases Program (EIDP) for surveillance of influenza and influenza-like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also, a PEPFAR funded program in HIV treatment, care and prevention in the districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma, Buikwe, Luwero, Nakasongola. Additionally. MUWRP seeks to fill the following position.
Contract Tenure: 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to the needs of the Organization
Antenatal Care
Health Assessments: Conducting regular health assessments of pregnant women, including physical exams, ultrasounds, and monitoring fetal development.
Education and Counseling: Providing education on prenatal health, nutrition, and lifestyle to expectant mothers and their families.
Medical History: Taking detailed medical histories to identify any potential risk factors.
Labor and Delivery
Birth Planning: Assisting in the development of birth plans and discussing options with the expectant mother.
Labor Support: Providing continuous support and monitoring during labor, including pain management techniques and emotional support.
Delivery: Assisting with the delivery of the baby, ensuring both mother and baby are healthy and safe.
Emergency Care: Managing any complications that arise during labor and delivery, and performing emergency procedures if necessary.
Postnatal Care
Health Checks: Conducting postnatal checks for both mother and baby, monitoring recovery and development.
Breastfeeding Support: Providing guidance and support for breastfeeding and addressing any related issues.
Parenting Advice: Offering advice on newborn care, parenting, and family planning.
Reproductive Health
Family Planning: Providing information and support on contraception and family planning options.
Gynecological Care: Conducting routine gynecological exams and addressing any reproductive health issues.
Health Education: Educating women on reproductive health, menstrual health, and menopausal care.
Administrative Duties
Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate and detailed medical records of patients.
Coordination: Coordinating with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
Reporting: Preparing reports and documentation as required by healthcare facilities or regulatory bodies.

Nursing Degree: A nursing degree (RN) followed by specialized training in midwifery.
Midwifery Program: Completion of an accredited midwifery education program.
Certification: Certification by a recognized professional body, such as the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) or equivalent in other countries.
Professional Experience
Clinical Experience: Experience in obstetrics and gynecology, including labor and delivery.
Specialized Experience: Prior experience working in midwifery, either during clinical rotations or in a professional capacity.
Skills and Competencies
Clinical Skills: Proficiency in conducting prenatal exams, managing labor and delivery, and providing postnatal care.
Emergency Response: Ability to respond to emergencies and perform necessary medical interventions.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to educate and support patients.
Compassion and Empathy: Strong interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple patients and maintain accurate records.

Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in conducting medical assessments and keeping records.
Patience and Calmness: Ability to remain calm and patient, particularly in stressful or emergency situations.
Physical Stamina: Good physical stamina to handle the demands of labor and delivery support.
Knowledge Areas
Maternal and Child Health: In-depth knowledge of maternal and child health, including pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care.
Reproductive Health: Understanding of reproductive health issues and family planning methods.
Healthcare Regulations: Awareness of healthcare regulations and ethical standards related to midwifery practice.
