Job Description
Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician
Organisation: Watoto Church and Child Care Ministries
Duty Station: Watoto Village – Laminadera, Gulu, Uganda
We are seeking to recruit a Laboratory Technician to perform laboratory tests to diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare samples and conduct laboratory tests according to Standard Operating Procedures in the areas of serology, hematology, immunology, and parasitology as assigned by the Medical Laboratory Coordinator (MLC).
Record, report, and maintain laboratory tests and results accurately.
Organize medical laboratory screenings and conduct health education within Watoto medical services.
Maintain laboratory supplies within the laboratory, and work closely with fellow laboratory personnel, MLC, and Procurement to ensure that the laboratory is well stocked.
Comply with regulatory guidelines and standard operating procedures and participate in the continual development of SOPs within the laboratory.
Perform quality assurance/quality control procedures, including Proficiency Testing and 1QC as scheduled.
Adhere to laboratory safety and infection control procedures.
Maintain proper laboratory equipment operation to ensure optimum functionality.
Conduct CMEs for the medical personnel for continual development.
Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
The applicant for the Laboratory Technician position should have a diploma in Medical Laboratory from a recognized institution.
Registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
At least 2 years of working experience in a laboratory setting.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate well with children of all ages.
Should be passionate about community health care with the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Knowledge or training in Quality Management Systems such as ISO 15189 is an added advantage.
