The main purpose of this role will be to support the VSO Uganda team as well as contribute to the work of the wider Livelihoods Thematic Areas in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluation local livelihoods interventions that are based on VSO’s Livelihoods framework including our assets and capabilities approach, integrating social inclusion and gender (with a focus on youth, women and persons with disabilities), building resilience and promoting social countability in all our work.
Community Engagement: Engage with local communities to understand their livelihoods, economic challenges, and opportunities. This involves building relationships, listening to their needs, and involving them in decision-making processes.
Assessment and Analysis: Conduct assessments of local livelihoods, including economic activities, skills, assets, and market opportunities. Analyze the data collected to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to livelihood development.
Capacity Building: Provide training and capacity-building support to community members on various aspects of livelihood development. This could include skills training, financial literacy, business management, and agricultural techniques, depending on the context.
Livelihoods Planning and Strategy: Work with communities to develop livelihoods plans and strategies that are tailored to their needs and aspirations. This involves setting goals, identifying priority activities, and creating action plans for implementation.
Market Linkages: Facilitate linkages between local producers and markets, both formal and informal. This could involve connecting farmers to buyers, helping artisans access new markets, or supporting the development of local value chains.
Resource Mobilization: Assist communities in accessing resources and funding for livelihoods initiatives. This might involve writing proposals, networking with donors and organizations, and exploring alternative sources of financing.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop monitoring and evaluation systems to track the progress of livelihoods interventions. This includes collecting data, measuring impact, and identifying areas for improvement.
Advocacy and Networking: Advocate for policies and programs that support sustainable livelihoods and economic development at the local and national levels. Build partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to leverage resources and expertise.
Gender and Social Inclusion: Ensure that livelihoods interventions are gender-sensitive and inclusive of marginalized groups. This involves addressing gender disparities, promoting women's economic empowerment, and integrating social inclusion principles into programming.
Documentation and Reporting: Document lessons learned, success stories, and best practices from livelihoods interventions. Prepare regular reports for stakeholders, donors, and partners to demonstrate impact and accountability.
