Job Description
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Monitor and analyze national and international laws, regulations, and changes (including drafts) that may impact the company. Provide advice on their interpretation, application, and enforcement.
Conduct legal research to support the company’s operations.
Offer timely legal opinions (both written and oral) and provide legal support across all areas of the company’s day-to-day activities.
Draft, review, and where applicable, prepare contracts, documents, and correspondence for the company’s signature.
Engage in negotiations with service providers, contractors, joint venture partners, public authorities, and other stakeholders.
Offer legal support in any litigation involving the company, both as plaintiff and defendant.
Coordinate with external counsel and internal departments to schedule meetings, conduct interviews, and participate in dispute resolution and settlement processes.
Collaborate with partners, authorities, and the midstream legal function, sharing knowledge and experiences as needed.
Identify legal and contractual risks in the company’s daily operations and propose measures to mitigate them.
Contribute to the development of skills and knowledge within the team by sharing expertise and participating in legal staff training sessions.
Prepare weekly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal and HQ purposes.
Ensure the timely signing of contracts and efficient processing of legal documents.
Manage the timely and consistent payment of all fees and invoices related to the legal department.
Maintain an organized filing system, ensuring proper documentation is preserved.
Support ongoing skill development and improvement of legal processes.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Person Specification:
Education, Training, Skills & Experience:
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized University.
Postgraduate diploma in Legal Practice.
Experience:
Not exceeding 3-5 years of post-graduation experience.
Skills:
Basic understanding of oil and gas contracts and Uganda’s legal and regulatory framework for the oil and gas industry.
Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to thrive in a multi-cultural and international business environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage high-pressure situations and work effectively under tight deadlines.
